The nation's largest animal protection organization is teaming up with a newly launched web site that is designed to bring people and their pets together. The site features pet care information from The Humane Society of the United States.

WASHINGTON, DC (PRWEB) June 8, 2004 -– As any dog lover will attest, having a pet at your side is an instant conversation starter. Pets create a common bond that can turn strangers into friends, neighborhoods into communities, and, sometimes, acquaintances into romantic partners. Thats the concept behind Animal Attraction, a newly launched website designed to bring people together through their shared love for pets.

The Humane Society of the United States is helping to promote Animal Attraction because they support one of the organizations primary goals: To strengthen the bond that people have with their pets.

"People with companion animals want to be around other people who understand and appreciate the importance of having the love and affection of a pet," said Stephanie Shain, director of outreach for companion animals for The HSUS. "Animal Attraction offers a safe and informative way for people with pets to meet and mingle."

The site officially launched on May 18, but subscribers to The HSUS electronic newsletters were offered a sneak peak and subscription discounts. Already Animal Attraction has attracted" members from every state in the country and membership is growing every day.

"Were thrilled by the strong interest that Animal Attraction is already receiving," said the sites founder, Washington-based entrepreneur Dan Cohen.

Cohen conceived of Animal Attraction after attending a Dog Happy Hour and observing how easily people interacted in the presence of pets. Cohen sees the estimated $31 billion market for pet products and services and the nearly $500 million spent on Internet-based dating services in 2003 as a match made in heaven.

"Animal Attraction is much more than a dating service, its a meeting place for pet lovers," said Cohen. "And by joining forces with The Humane Society of the United States we are providing the best possible information on pet care to huge numbers of pet lovers across the U.S". The site includes tips on pet care from The HSUS, such as finding a lost pet, selecting a veterinarian or boarding kennel, moving with pets, and pet behavior.

The Humane Society of the United States is the nations largest animal protection organization with more than eight million members and constituents. The HSUS is a mainstream voice for animals, with active programs in companion animals and equine protection, wildlife and habitat protection, animals in research and farm animals and sustainable agriculture. The HSUS protects all animals through legislation, litigation, investigation, education, advocacy and fieldwork. The non-profit organization, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2004, is based in Washington, DC and has 10 regional offices across the country.
