DRIVEN BY GOD — Planting Gospel News In Secular Environs

By Grant Swank -- Susan Zahn left the upscale pad (swimming pool, gym, recreation) for the "ugly ducking" one-bedroom shelter — one of those TLC-begging "huts" in Arizona. ($395/month rent; get the picture?) Left the good-paying position for planting Christs seeds in the spiritually wilted back lots—-worldwide. Thats how WHITE DOVE COMMUNICATIONS — WDC — was born from above.

(PRWEB) June 10, 2004 -- With that may I introduce you to: SUSAN ZAHN

Susan Zahn on WDC Media --

The first 9 months were difficult. What was WDC — merely a passing dream or a God-propelled major witness? Needless to say, I trudged along by faith — not by sight.

My mother, Ellie, signed on as my daily prayer partner. I ate a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches back then and was willing to work for free for anyone who would let me. Still doors kept closing in my face. Thats the way it is, isnt it, when working the gospel in a spiritually damaged world? Jesus said it would be that way. So was I surprised? Not really, still it took some daily doing to keep the demon of discouragement out of my head.

Some pastors just didn't get the compelling concept of using secular news as a crossover platform for the gospel. More then one pastor told me it was just far too secular a world today, that Christians had better methods to evangelize society than moving into the secular news, popular media and movies with the gospel. They just couldnt get the thrust of "crossover."

Yet the Lord kept directing me in the direction of planting those gospel seeds in the secular wilted back alleys — worldwide. When God drives, one goes along for the ride if the journeys to be made and I was determined to make the journey.

Nevertheless, at times the day-by-day feedback was less than promising. For instance, when finally I did get someone to let me work for free, a churchgoer pulled me aside to educate me on a piece of his mind. He lectured me in no uncertain terms that I was not to haul secular news crews into his --"church."

Christ said there would be days like that. "In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." However, what I had not expected was so much static — tribulation — from my fellow Christians. All the reason more why I daily welcomed Jesus overcoming and blessing me with His "good cheer."

The one incident, above all the rest, that hurt the most, was when a young woman, 28 or so (the daughter of an associate pastor at an inner city church), told me: "We dont need people like you coming to our church to corrupt it!!"

Enter Mel Gibson. . .

In October 2003 God broke through. It was Gibson's "The Passion of The Christ." Those same pastors who had rejected being in the news were now eager to embrace the concept.

Gibson had struck a cord in their hearts and, with that, WHITE DOVE COMMUNICATIONS was printed in large letters across the map.

My phone rang off the hook. Work started knocking on my humble door.

On Feb 25 at 7:30 in Gods bright morning, WDC hosted a special "all faiths screening" of Gibsons movie! It was followed by a panel discussion composed of Roman Catholics, Jewish Rabbis, Messianics and Protestant leaders throughout the community.

The event was highlighted by local news (a complete sweep!) and fed out to national carriers. That event was heralded as a major, no-doubt-about-it success in bridging the gap between different faiths. I had invited 425 people. I received over 1500 requests to attend!

But more — it was not only bridging the gap between various religious groups, it was PLANTING THE GOSPEL IN THE SECULAR MEDIA. In other words, it was CROSSING OVER — THE GOSPEL SEED IN SECULAR BACK ALLEYS.

In the meantime, on a personal level, that ugly duckling pad was born again into a loving heartbeat for gospel good. I reached out to people on my block. Five gave their hearts to the Lord because of the testimony-from-the-hut. Neighborhood kids starting going to church with me. And, through it all, the Holy Spirits creative force turned up the fire in me!

So now it is with great pleasure that WHITE DOVE COMMUNICATIONS invites you to come along for the journey.
