UniSay Delivers Worlds First Bi-lingual Captioning Solution Direct From NLE

The world's first software-only solution for creating closed captions with multiple languages direct from NLE. From script to broadcast, UniSay Subtitler now enables a dramatic reduction in time and cost to deliver closed captioning masters for broadcast (Line 21).

Banff, Canada -- June 13, 2004 -- BANFF TV FESTIVAL 2004, (Booth #13)—The worlds first software-only solution for creating closed captions with multiple languages direct from a nonlinear editor (NLE), was announced today by UniSay at Banff TV Festival. UniSay Subtitler now enables a dramatic reduction in time and cost to deliver closed captioning masters for broadcast (Line 21).

Broadcasters typically require programs they purchase to be delivered with embedded captioning, adding significant cost and technical difficulty for content owners. The UniSay solution removes the need for expensive hardware encoders and time required to courier tapes to service providers. Media professionals can now directly create their own captions in-house, allowing for tight control over budgets and deadlines.

Time to market, quality of product, and budget are paramount concerns in postproduction," says William Mutual, UniSay Chairman. By using UniSay Subtitler our clients can hit this mark with five stars. We have also provided tight integration with industry leading script writing software, Final Draft, to optimize production flow between our two solutions."

Frank Colin, Vice President of Product Development for Final Draft added, By partnering with Unisay, we can offer the entertainment industry a streamline solution for creating closed captioning and subtitling using Final Draft script writing software."

To create closed captioning and subtitling with UniSay, editors begin by uploading a transcript and media file to the UniSay online service. (If using Final Draft software, simply export a script report from Final Draft, and then select it as the script format when uploading to UniSay.) After the transcript and media are processed, a new file is automatically created with synchronized dialogue and video. The new file can be opened in the Subtitler client software to fine-tune. Any required language translation can be automatically processed and placed in the timed file, ready for export to closed captioning (or subtitling, including DVD). If multiple languages are needed, it requires only a single export process and is contained in a single file. Editors can then record a closed caption master direct from a standard NLE system.
