A group of firefighters, police, rescue workers, volunteers and union members formed a special alliance in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy – they spent every day for months together working at Ground Zero. Their work was not the type that could be forgotten at the end of the day. It wasn't simply a job for them - it became a way of life. Aware that many families affected by 9/11 were in dire need of financial support, which hampered their ability to provide for their children, a group of rescue workers united to create a charitable motorcycle ride

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 21, 2004 -- A group of firefighters, police, rescue workers, volunteers and union members formed a special alliance in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy – they spent every day for months together working at Ground Zero. Their work was not the type that could be forgotten at the end of the day. It wasn't simply a job for them - it became a way of life. Aware that many families affected by 9/11 were in dire need of financial support, which hampered their ability to provide for their children, a group of rescue workers united to create a charitable motorcycle ride.

Veterans and motorcycle enthusiasts will take part in the Ground Zero Independence Ride on July 24, 2004. The proceeds of the ride will benefit the Worldwide Children's Foundation of New York, Inc., a not for profit foundation devoted to providing life-saving or life-altering surgery to children in need in the United States and throughout the world. In creating the ride, the spirited group of rescue workers show the powerful lesson they learned in the aftermath of September 11 – that together we can all make a difference in the world.

The Independence Ride begins at Ground Zero and travels to Krucker's Grove in Pomona, New York. The participants will enjoy an American BBQ with a variety of live music from "Johnny Bulldog," the lead singer of Creedence Clearwater Revisted, for a fee of $65. The money will then be donated to The Worldwide Children's Foundation of New York, Inc. The mission of the ride is to raise money and awareness in recognition of the children who were forgotten in 9/11.

"Through the rides, we want to emphasize that the spirit of giving and compassion that was so apparent after 9/11 is not gone; it lives on through the Ground Zero veterans and events such as this motorcycle ride," says Jim Miller, a Ground Zero rescue worker.

About The Worldwide Children's Foundation of New York, Inc.
While working at Ground Zero, the founders of the Ground Zero Independence Ride met Father Brian Jordan, OFM. He was at the site, offering support and comfort to the workers who dealt with the agonizing job of finding so many victims who perished in the tragedy. Father Brian is also the president of the Worldwide Childrens Foundation of New York, Inc. The Foundation is committed to providing life-saving or life-altering surgery to children in need in the United States and throughout the world.
