Thirty-nine nationally-known Western artists will converge on the Maynard Dixon home this August for Maynard Dixon Country, an art invitational and sale in Mt. Carmel, Utah, just thirty minutes from Zion National Park.
MT. CARMEL, UT (PRWEB) June 23, 2004 -- Maynard Dixon Country, an art invitational featuring thirty-nine of Americas best and brightest artists, will open on Saturday August 28, 2004 at the Maynard Dixon summer home and studio in Mt. Carmel, Utah.
Artists from throughout the United States are participating in this show. They are Albert Handell, Bonnie Posselli, Calvin Liang, Carolyn Lord, Charles Muench, Clyde Aspevig, Dan Robinson, Denise La Rue Mahlke, Donal Jolley, G. Russell Case, George Strickland, Gerald Rahm, Glenn Dean, J. Chris Morel, Jason Situ, Jean Le Gassick, Jim Morgan, John Budicin, Joseph Mendez, Jove Wang, Kate Starling, Kathryn Stats, Kenn Backhaus, Kraig Kiedrowski, Len Chmiel, Matt Smith, Patricia Smith, Peggi Kroll-Roberts, Ralph Oberg, Ray Roberts, Rob Colvin, T. Allen Lawson, Tim Solliday, Walt Gonske, and Ken Baxter.
Now in its sixth year, the events include a four day paint-out, show-off and awards ceremony in which the Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts will give away $20,000 in cash prizes. The gala event and awards ceremony opens to the public for $50/person on Saturday, August 28, with a special preview on Friday, August 27. This years gala will feature special awards for Artists Emeriti Diane Turner, Gaell Lindstrom, and Elva Malin.
The Maynard Dixon home and studio in Mt. Carmel, Utah has been a destination retreat for artists since Maynard Dixon and his wife Edith Hamlin built their summer retreat there in 1939. After Dixons death in 1946, Hamlin buried Dixons ashes on the hillside overlooking the property.
Founded in 1999, the Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts is a non-profit organization furthering Maynard Dixons legacy by preserving his estate and educating the public about his immeasurable contributions to American art through educational tours of his home, internships for working artists, and artist retreats.
