Jen Elliott , opening tonight for the Little River Band at the Downtown in Farmingdale, New York has moved from open mic nights in small bars to being a highly regarded emerging independent artist and a highly charismatic performer within a couple of years.
(PRWEB) June 24, 2004 -- Just a couple of years ago, Florida native Jen Elliott was testing the musical waters at open mic nights in small Jacksonville Beach bars. Tonight at 8:15 at the Downtown in Farmingdale, New York Ms. Elliott, as a highly respected emerging independent artist, and her band Bluestruck open for the Little River Band, the legendary Austrialian group that has strung together an impressive series of top-charting hits in the United States over the years.
In between open mic nights and her appearance with the Little River Band came a move by Ms. Elliott to New York where some demos from her Florida mic nights caught the ears of the A&R Department of a new indie label, City Canyons Records--a label with a taste for hot emerging artists of all genres. There followed a multi-album deal with the label, subsquent appearances at most of Manhattans better venues and finally a debut CD, THE SECRETS OUT, that received general acclaim as a sparkling effort by a talented newcomer and charted in the Top 30 in college radio stations around the country and in Canada.
Over time, Ms. Elliotts live performances became the talk of the indie music circuit. She blossomed into a hugely charismatic singer causing one noted reviewer, Hank Bordowitz to remark:
Jen Elliott has the goods. Fusing the sensibilities of the Rolling Stones with the Ronnettes, she and her band manage to be tougher and sexier than either. Nor is the sound really retro. Great rock is timeless, and Jen Elliott makes great rock."
The immediate future looks busy and bright for Ms. Elliott as she launches her national tour this summer and fall including, among a host of other events , a date on July 1 at the highly regarded Triumph Brewery in Princeton, New Jersey and a guest appearance this fall at an concert sponsored by the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The Downtown is located at 190 Main Street in Farmingdale. Advance tickets for Jen Elliott/The Little River Band are $25.00, $30.00 at the door. Also appearing will be special guest, The Dare Ya Blues Band.
