Third Annual Encephalitis Conference Update

FACES to FACES Encephalitis Conference has confirmed two Conference speakers to date.

(PRWEB) June 24, 2004 -- Ginette Lafleche, Ph.D., is the clinical neuropsychologist of The Memory Disorders Research Center at Boston University School of Medicine. The MDRC has been studying memory disorders for over 15 years in order to understand the cognitive processes that are involved in remembering and how the brain mediates these processes. The MDRCs main approach is to study the types of memory deficits that are seen after a variety of brain injuries, including encephalitis. Dr. Lafleche will discuss managing and improving memory problems after encephalitis.

David W. Moskowitz, MD, is the Chairman, CEO and Chief Medical Officer for GenoMed, Inc. GenoMed is a company that uses its expertise in genomics to improve clinical outcomes. They announced recently (June 10 2004) that USAs second case of West Nile virus encephalitis has responded promptly to its treatment approach. Dr. Moskowitz states that, "viral encephalitis involves two players: the virus and the host. Not every person infected with the same virus has the same reaction to it. For example, only about one third of people with West Nile virus 'fever' go on to develop full-blown encephalitis. And no more than 30% of people with WNV encephalitis die. Why are some people unluckier than others?"

FACES (Friends And Caregivers, Encephalitis Survivors) represents a strong and dedicated group of people striving to share information and support, and to raise awareness on the topic of encephalitis. Previous Conferences held in Ottawa Canada and Las Vegas Nevada, welcomed survivors, caregivers and loved ones from India and Great Britain, as well as Canada and the United States. FACES 2004 is to be held in Enfield Connecticut USA on August 6th to August 8th, 2004.
