It is the collaborative creation of husband and wife team fine art photographer Assaf Reznik and embroiderer Mical Aloni together with designer Nona Wesley and builder Felipe Rodriguez.
Red adobe arches bask in the sun and colorful blooms sway in the wind by the pond where Koi play under cascading waters and birds sing atop weeping willow branches midst intricate condominium abodes and the Aloni Reznik art studio, which opened a year ago. At 3:30 pm, poet James Navé, resident of the creative community of Villa de las Flores, will debut recent work, which he describes as "narrative poetic imagery". A ceremonial toast will follow and sumptuous hors d'oeuvres will be served. The artists will sign a complementary, limited edition poster and a drawing will be held for a $100 gift certificate toward artwork and for an invitation for two to a 5-course dinner cooked by award winning chef Mical Aloni. KTAO 101.9FM will broadcast the event live.

In "Women of Taos" Aloni asks her subjects to think about how would they like to be presented in their embroidered portrait. Then, artist and subject together develop a concept that is stitched on cloth. "The work embodies a primary tension between the way one wishes to project oneself in the world and the way he or she is perceived by others, or, in this case, by me", says Aloni. "This tension, I think, gives the work a multi-faceted dimension that would not otherwise be there".
Rezniks "images profoundly capture a serene moment in time" according to Charles Lovell, Director of the Harwood Museum of Art in Taos. "I often said that much of my photographic work is an invitation to the viewer to journey into themselves, perhaps into areas yet unfamiliar to them" says Reznik. His first embroidered piece, a portrait of a lazing dog titled The After-Snack, is on display at the Klaudia Marr Gallery in Santa Fe, NM, and will be exhibited in the studio at the Anniversary reception. "To me, embroidering this piece was a journey into uncharted artistic territories, and the value of it was solely in my willingness to explore."
It has been a productive and rewarding year since the couple launched the Villa de las Flores building project and opened their studio. Just as the ink was drying on the blue prints, Aloni participated in the prestigious Contemporary Art / Taos show at the Harwood Museum of Art and Reznik won "Best of Photography" at the Taos Fall Arts Fair. Later, the Harwood Museum of Art added his piece harvest to the museums permanent collection and exhibited it in the New Acquisition show past April. Reznik's photographs were chosen for the cover of the Society of the Muse of the Southwest (S.O.M.O.S) anthology this year.
Aloni and Reznik were born and raised only fifteen miles from one another in Israel. They met for the first time more than thirty-five years later in Taos. "We fell in love with each other's art before we fell in love with each other," says Aloni, "We share a sense of aesthetics and a commitment to create beauty that uplifts the human spirit in everything we do: art, building, cooking, gardening. It is indeed artistry in living for us."
