Rare and Discontinued Lava Lamps Featured On PlanetLava.com

Planet Lava specializes in Lava Brand Motion Lamps, providing a large selection of lamps to choose from including rare and discontinued models.

(PRWEB) June 9, 2004 -- Lava lamps have captivated observers for decades. Edward Craven-Walker, a citizen of Great Britain, introduced lava lamps to the world in 1963. Two Americans bought the rights to this first generation lamp and called it the Lava Brand Motion Lamp, popularly dubbed the lava lamp.

Lava lamp sales have been on a roller coaster ride ever since Craven-Walker introduced the hypnotic accessory. Lamp sales peaked in the late 1960s but popularity died off in the early 1970s. Since the late 1980s, lava lamp sales have been steadily increasing. With a recent surge in demand for this mesmerizing accessory, Planet Lava (http://www.planetlava.com) has developed an online lava lamp superstore for enthusiasts and curious web surfers to enjoy.

Planet Lava carries a large variety of Lava Brand lava lamps, including extremely rare and discontinued models. Some of the lava lamp models featured at Planet Lava are:
· Silver Streak
· Midnight
· Accent
· Glitter
· Plasma
· 20 ounce

Many stare at the lava lamps hypnotic glowing goo and wonder: How does it work? Two substances fill the Lava Brand Motion Lamp: a specially developed wax type compound, and a liquid that is partly water. A metal coil and a light bulb sit at the bottom of the globe. When the lamp is turned on, the metal coil is heated by the light bulb warming the wax. The heated wax becomes less dense than the liquid so it flows toward the top of the lamp. The wax cools when it is away from the heated coil at the bottom. As it cools, the wax density becomes higher than the liquid causing it fall back to the bottom. This cycle repeats making for a mesmerizing and hypnotic exhibit.

Not only does Planet Lava specialize in lava lamps but they also offer an eclectic array of inflatable furniture and accessories. Planet Lava carries a variety of inflatable chairs, sofas, and footstools. All inflatable furniture is available in many sizes, styles, and colors to match the motif of any room.

Lava Brand Motion Lamps now come in many styles and make a great gift for any occasion.
