MPS Leads in ISPS Code Training and Course Approvals by National Administrations

MPS offers a series of worldwide training courses for company security officers (CSOs) and ship security officers (SSOs), along with their unique combined CSO/SSO course and an internationally approved Port Facility Officers (PFSO) course that has received approval from the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), Transport Security Directorate (Transec) and Bureau Veritas. The MCA is a leading force among a growing number of national administrations that are requiring CSOs and SSOs associated with their flagged vessels to attend approved training courses.

(PRWEB) July 2, 2004 -- A key requirement of the International Ship and Port Facility Security [ISPS] Code is for the people with security responsibilities to be appropriately trained to carry out their duties. MCA strongly supports the UK Governments requirement for CSOs and SSOs associated with UK-registered ships to undergo approved training," says Phil White, Head of Maritime Security with MCA. This was evident in the fact that attendance at the last course offering of Maritime Protective Services (MPS) held in the UK included several MCA officials.

When MPS launched its CSO and SSO courses, at the beginning of this year, the intent was to provide shipping organizations and their people with a clear interpretation and guidance on the implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. And now, with MPS courses available (literally) around the world, that intent is being fulfilled. Emanating from, either our campus facilities at Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) or from our home-base" facilities in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. U.S. or Poole in the UK, or our satellite offices in: Greece, Venezuela, Columbia; Egypt; Algeria; Libya; Nigeria and Spain… MPS trainers can and will continue to do on-site" training for the convenience of their international clients, wherever they may be.

The approvals and acknowledgments we have received from these and a host of other internationally recognized industry giants, bear witness to the commitment made by MPS to the industry – as well as serving to validate the quality and professionalism of our methods and materials," said Dr. Bob Sewak, Director of Education and Training for MPS.

What is even more important is the response of the industry to the exceptionally high quality of the MPS training and its trainers. Ship operators and Port facility administrators have chosen training options for their people that have included: sending their staff to MPS scheduled open-enrolment ISPS Code courses, or arranging for on-site" training at one or multiple locations of their firm. As of this writing, MPS trainers have conducted more than 50 ISPS courses in more a dozen countries and trained over 500 officers.

MPS provides certification for the ISPS Code and, where desired, can provide a wide array of consultancy services contained in/for the Codes requirements. Also, to assist its clients with implementation of all aspects of the code, MPS can provide extensive training on all aspects of the Code and with the use of the MPS METHOD", the task is made much easier to accomplish and manage.
