VeriLAN, Inc., a Portland-based wireless service provider, is now providing free wireless access to the websites for the Portland Library, Tri-Met, MAX, Portland City job sites, and other public service entities of interest to the community.

Portland, OR (PRWEB) July 6, 2004 -- "Being based in Portland, we want to benefit the people who live and work locally by providing wireless access to community content free of charge." explained Steven Schroedl, President of VeriLAN Inc. He further stated "This is one way of giving back to the people of the Portland area who have supported us since we launched our company."

Portland is one of the most un-wired cities in America according to a recent survey. VeriLAN has a vision to remedy that situation by offering a significant amount of extra value to those with wireless capability. Anyone with a wirelessly equipped laptop or PDA that can pick up the VeriLAN signal will be able to surf a number of websites for information from public entities.

Examples of how people might use this service include:
1. Query bus and MAX schedules
2. Search local job listings
3. Check local community event calendars
4. Access City of Portland websites

The best place to receive the VeriLAN signal is downtown Portland along the waterfront. WiFi signals can be received up to 4 kilometers away without the need for external antennas or amplifiers, but line of sight is required. Service can also be accessed from many parts of Southwest downtown Portland and up to Northwest 21st and Everett Street.
