Changing the Game: Young Writer Transforms the Landscape of African American Christian Fiction with her debut novel, The Gospel According to Sasha Renee.

Writer and Educator, Tracey Michae'l Lewis, releases her highly anticipated debut novel, The Gospel According to Sasha Renee. The first of four "gospels" in a series, the book is a profound and soul-stirring fictional testimony of one woman's journey to true love.

(PRWEB) July 10, 2004 -- On July 6, 2004, the independent, New Jersey based MoonChild Publishing introduced the debut novel by Louisville, KY native, Tracey Michae'l Lewis titled, The Gospel According to Sasha Renee. MoonChild's highly anticipated foray into fiction is poised to turn the growing African American and Christian markets on its ear with a story that appeals to both the literary and commercial fiction markets.

Set in Chicago, "Sasha" is the first of four "gospels" chronicling three generations of women in an African American family (ending with the author's own memoir) and reveals the compelling story of a young woman wrestling with her views of herself, love, and spirituality. The feisty and stubborn Sasha Billingsley overcomes seemingly insurmountable circumstances with the help of her soul-mate, Langston Germaine, and the unseen forces of the spirit realm. While many Christian fiction offerings focus on characters that are already Christians, Lewis takes the reader on Sasha's amazing journey to salvation and beyond using the reality that exists in the lives of all people. In other words, this is not your mother's Christian Fiction!

"I want to challenge the often peripheral and passive roles in which Christian writers are branded within the African American and arts community at-large. It's time for a revolutionary approach to the message."-Tracey Michae'l Lewis

As a writer, Lewis' work has seen critical acclaim with "Collapsed" her first poetry collection winning MoonChild the honor of Best Poetry Book of 2002 by the SCBC Independent Publisher Awards. Her second book, Divine Nepotism was endorsed by the renown poet, Nikki Giovanni. Lewis is also a part-time professor of English at New Jersey City University and speaks across the country on various topics.

To celebrate the release of The Gospel According to Sasha Renee, Lewis will be hosting multiple book signings throughout her summer 2004 U.S. book tour. She launched her book to the publishing industry at the annual Book Expo America conference held in Chicago last month and was well-received by press and authors alike.
