Glory Beyond the Gridiron

Grime and Glory is an 145-page fiction novel that focuses on the life of a college scholar-athlete. As a model college football player, Darius Prophet tries to dispel negative stereotypes of African-American male athletes. The novel explores the glory of his life as a superstar athlete, while exposing the grime that inevitably trails him.

(PRWEB) July 13, 2004 -- Foregoing the National Football League, Darius returns to school his senior year, determined to win the Elvin Schumacher Award. The award can only be given to one student-athlete per year, and to qualify, he/she must achieve three things: (1) be named First Team All-America in his/her sport, (2) graduate Summa Cum Laude, and (3) win the National Leadership Award, given to only twenty students per year by the President. The award does not have to be given every year, and the last time someone received the award was over twenty years prior to Darius return. In pursuit of this venture, Darius faces limitless temptation, as well as those whose only goal is to try to pull him backward.

Grime and Glory was written by Emeka Onyejekwe, a law student at New York University School of Law in the Class of 2006, and a former Ohio State University football player. As a former scholar-athlete, Onyejekwe gives an insider perspective on the glory of a collegiate athlete, while lowering the pedestal and humanizing those who society generally portrays as superhuman. Grime and Glory has received rave reviews from some of the premiere athletes in the country and has been featured on several websites including www.blackathlete.com and www.blacknews.com.

Grime and Glory will be published in the first week of August 2004, but the novel is now available for pre-order. The softcover edition (ISBN 0-9755462-0-1) is available from Souls Cabin Inc., P.O. Box 2231, New York, NY 10027, (614) 774-1585 for $14.95 plus $2.50 for shipping and handling. More information can be viewed at www.grime-and-glory.com.
