July 17, 2004--Texas Music Hall of Famer Kent "Omar" Dykes is as well known for growlin' thick as the swamps surrounding the Mississippi as he is for his bone rattling blues infused Texas rock. Omar's wife, Lyn Dykes (44) has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and the medical bills are mounting higher than the family's insurance will pay. On Wednesday, July 21, 2004, friends and fans of Omar and Lyn Dykes will gather to donate their time and talent at Antone's, Austin's Home of the Blues to kick off a series of benefits to raise funds for Lyn Dykes' medical bills. Antone's is located at 213 West 5th Street (corner of 5th St and Lavaca), in Austin, TX.
Platinum selling artists Los Lonely Boys, who count Omar amongst their influences, will headline Wednesday's event which features more of Austin's finest: Omar and The Howlers, Marcia Ball, Terry Bozzio, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Stephen Bruton, Tommy Shannon, Frosty Smith, Guy Forsyth, Papa Mali Trio, Dead End Angels, and more as everyone rallies to help one of their own. Doors open at 7:00 PM, 18 and over and show starts at 8:00 PM. Tickets on sale $30.00 at www.startickets.com until 4:00 PM the day of the show or until it sells out.
