This melody filled recording includes such favorites as Beautiful Dreamer and Hard Times Waltz performed on actual historical instruments from the time of Stephen Foster.

Many of these recordings have been used for their historical authenticity as music for documentaries including A House Divided, the History of Golf, Pinehurst, the Life of PT Barnum and others. The mellow sound of the Chestnut Brass Company collection of 19th century saxhorns enhances the melodies and marches of Stephen Foster. Featured instruments include a matched pair of over the shoulder soprano saxhorns, one a Union instrument and one a rare example of a surviving Confederate saxhorn.Saxhorns are brass instruments with a rounder, less forceful sound than the modern brasses.
