New Moon® Publishing Encourages Girls to Read

Today, fewer than 50% of American adults read literature, while 77% of teens access the internet at least once a week. New Moon Publishing is bringing the book club into the digital age, encouraging the next generation of adults to read.

DULUTH, Minn.(PRWEB) July 21, 2004 -- On July 8th, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) released the results of a survey which shows the dramatic decline of reading in America. Today, fewer than 50% of American adults are reading literature. The Reading at Risk Survey" reports the steepest decline (28%) occurs in the youngest age groups (www.nea.gov).

However, the U.S. Census Bureau recently reported that 77% of teens access the internet at least once a week, with a high percentage of their online time spent reading and sending email, and chatting online (US Census Partnership and Marketing Evaluation).

New Moon® is shocked by the results of the NEAs study, and wants to encourage our youth to read more by bringing the book club into the digital
age. New Moon® Publishing is launching an online book club at www.forgirlsandtheirdreams.org, which offers girls ages 8-14 the following benefits:

• Exclusive Online Author Chats
• New Moon Book Club Membership Card
• 10% Book Club Selections Discount at
www.newmoonstore.com
• Magnetic New Moon Bookmark
• Downloadable Discussion Questions
• Welcome Letter and E-Mail Updates

New Moons Book Club not only opens up the world of reading to girls, but provides a community of their own where girls discuss great literature.

The book of the month for August is Angel on the Square" by Gloria Whelan. Ms. Whelan will chat live with New Moon® Book Club Members on August 16th at 7 p.m. CDT.
