Houston, Texas (PRWEB) July 27, 2004 -- Meedio LLC today announced the availability of Meedio Essentials through its website at http://www.meedio.com/. Meedio Essentials provides consumers with a customizable television interface to browse, manage, and access nearly any type of digital media or information using a remote control or touch screen. Built upon a revolutionary new platform and open application interfaces, Meedio Essentials also enables developers, OEM system builders, and VARs to easily brand, customize, and extend the software with new graphical user interfaces and plug-in modules. Meedio Essentials will be sold online and through computer and home theater equipment manufacturers as part of complete media center systems. For a limited time, Meedio is offering an introductory promotion of 20% off the regular retail price of $59.95 when purchased at meedio.com.

Meedio Essentials has been in development since last October, after the amazing success of Meedio's myHTPC application drew a fan base of thousands of users to Meedio's website. After more than a half million downloads, 24 releases, and dozens of user-contributed plug-ins, myHTPC quickly became the leading software for HTPC, entertainment PC, and media center systems. Meedio then took the feedback from its active user community and developed a groundbreaking new application that now represents the state of the art in digital information and entertainment systems. After months of private beta testing with over 75 OEM system builders, developers, and users, Meedio Essentials already includes an online directory of many third-party plug-in modules and customized themes.

Meedio Essentials is available as standalone software and in starter kits that include complementary hardware such as remote controls. With Meedio Essentials, consumers can easily use their TV and remote control to:

  • Categorize, browse, search, and access all of their digital media, information, and PC files using customizable menus, user accounts, and password protection.

  • View digital photos and slideshows.

  • Play DVD's, CD's, video files (MPEG-1/2/4, DivX, WMV, etc), and audio files (MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, AIFF, APE etc).

  • Listen to Internet radio stations (streaming MP3, WMA, Shoutcast, Icecast, etc).

  • Instantly check weather conditions, forecasts, and maps for multiple cities worldwide.

  • View, copy, paste, and delete documents on hard drives, network shares, and file servers.

In addition, Meedio provides advanced features including:

  • Tools to customize the user interface with new graphics, sounds, and complete themes.

  • An online directory of downloadable add-ins provided by Meedio, third-party developers, and other users. Existing add-ins include support for instant messaging, Internet browsing, and an embedded web server that allows Meedio Essentials' media library to be accessed by web browsers over a network.

  • Support for consumers' existing computers and most recent PC hardware.

  • A robust Software Development Kit (SDK) and community of developers to aid in the creation of new add-in modules.
