PeopleSoft Research Shows HCM Can Link Employee Productivity to Manufacturing Output Targets

PLEASANTON, Calif. – August 2, 2004 – PeopleSoft, Inc. (Nasdaq: PSFT) today announced the findings of its second PeoplePulse Human Capital Management (HCM) customer survey, an online forum that captures workforce insights from PeopleSofts HCM customer base. The latest survey findings include opinions from almost 300 manufacturing line managers and PeopleSoft HCM customers on the importance of workforce performance in leading manufacturing companies. The survey results include the following:

- 75 percent of manufacturing executives are unsatisfied with tools they have in place to track and manage employee productivity.
- 60 percent of manufacturing executives think they lack the ability to tie specific employee goals to productivity.
- 84 percent of Human Resources (HR) managers want to spend more time tying individual employee performance to metrics such as safety, quality and customer satisfaction.
- 48 percent of HR managers think floor managers would not welcome their assistance improving the performance of their employees.

There is clearly pent up demand for manufacturing line managers and HR to join forces and improve employee performance against production goals," said Mark Lange, vice president of global marketing, PeopleSoft HCM. If HR and line managers work more closely together to deploy solutions that enable them to better understand and manage the performance of a manufacturing workforce, they can directly impact a companys most important operating and production metrics -- this is a huge opportunity for manufacturing customers and PeopleSoft."

Additional PeoplePulse results show that 100 percent of manufacturing executives surveyed think HR can provide some degree of assistance in tying individual employee productivity goals to manufacturing output targets. In addition, HR managers cited the ability to tie individual employee tasks to organizational goals as the primary reason they would deploy a workforce performance solution.

PeopleSofts HCM suite of applications, which includes industry-leading workforce performance management functionality and self-service tools, enable organizations to maximize employee value, allocate resources effectively, and attract and retain their most productive employees. More than half of Fortune 500 companies currently use PeopleSoft HCM.

Insights from the PeoplePulse survey are the result of online questionnaire responses from PeopleSofts global customer base. For complete survey results, contact PeopleSoft public relations at the address below.
