"Presenting Yourself as a Priority Artist Online" is a new workshop series that focuses on what artists can do to make email more effective and what role the Internet truly plays in moving their music career forward. The next workshop will be conducted by John Dawes, founder and president of MusicHosting.net on September 4th, 2004, in Phoenix, AZ.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) August 18, 2004 -- "Presenting Yourself as a Priority Artist Online" is part of a new workshop series offered by San Diego, CA based company MusicHosting.net. One surprising premise underscores the fact that independent artists should avoid using search engines, download sites and point-to-point file sharing services until they learn how to communicate who they are as artists in order to feed any demand properly. Other aspects focus on what artists can do to make email more effective for them, understanding what an artists web site is truly used for and what role the Internet actually plays in moving their music career forward. John Dawes, founder of MusicHosting.net and author of "The Complete Guide to Internet Promotion for Musicians, Artists & Songwriters," will be conducting the next workshop Saturday, September 4th, 2004 in Phoenix, AZ.

According to John Dawes, "Artists have a tendency to abuse email and Internet promotion by using it to replace human interaction when dealing with venues, the press, retailers and other industry professionals or avoid talking with potential fans anywhere outside of live performances." He also explains, "Another facet of this problem is many independent artists follow the latest online promotion fad, like point-to-point file sharing and uploading songs for purchase on iTunes, when they should be learning how to build relationships with their fans and updating industry professionals with their ongoing story as all successful artists do."

John also points out, "Artists typically want to avoid rejection but they dont realize what they perceive as ‘industry rejection is nothing more than a problem in presenting the correct image as a ‘priority artist that requires follow-up. However, if an artist already uses email to promote live shows and can browse the web, theyre in a strong position to move ahead. All they have left to learn is how to communicate who they are as an artist. Thats where [this workshop comes in."

John Dawes "Presenting Yourself as a Priority Artist Online" workshop is broken into three parts: 1) Using email effectively, 2) Setting up a proper artist web site and 3) Using the Internet as a promotion and research tool. He will also present the problems major label artists have when using the Internet as a promotion channel and why independent artists should never mimic them. John will walk each attendee through several exercises from the provided study guide based on his best-selling books.
