How it works – Unlike other off-site storage services, SwissDisk uses standards-based protocols to integrate seamlessly with the computing platform of your choice. You do not need to install extra software, or learn new tools in order to use the service. Whether you are using PDAs, Smartphones, Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, or proprietary Unix operating systems, you can easily manipulate the files in your SwissDisk storage area.
WebDAV – Utilizing WebDAV, SwissDisk brings its unique storage solution directly within any platforms filesystem. WebDAV is a standards-based extension to the common HTTP protocol (what you use to access web sites from any web browser) that allows uploading, renaming and direct access to files as they reside on your SwissDisk storage space. Secure SSL Connections – In conjunction with the HTTP/WebDAV protocol, your connection to SwissDisk is secured using industry standard SSL encryption. This is the same encryption that is used to secure online transactions, such as with your bank, or online store.
Private Key Encryption – Unlike other off-site storage systems, SwissDisk is built for security all the way down to the disks on our server. No other off-site storage offers you the same security for your files. Once you create an account with SwissDisk, a small portion of our disk space is allocated just for you. It's like getting your own hard drive on our computers. It's treated as separate disk space from the rest of the SwissDisk customers.
Because of this, we are able to encrypt your portion of disk space using the 256-bit AES encryption algorithm, the same encryption used to secure your connection to the server over SSL. When we do this, we do not simply encrypt your files on the SwissDisk server, but rather the entire filesystem. This ensures that no one can access your files without your password, including SwissDisk and its employees! All this security is transparent to the system and/or method you are using to access your files from.
Hardened Against Intrusion – The server itself is hardened to prevent intrusion, and protected by award winning WatchGuard firewall products to monitor and safeguard access to the system. The network and site that the server resides on is owned and operated solely by SwissDisk. None of our storage is hosted at third-party co-location centers, thus providing you the piece-of-mind that your data is being handled by one entity alone.
