Les Guthman's Adventure Productions on Three-Year Film Festival Streak

The selection of five of Les Guthman's productions for the Graz (Austria) International Adventure Film Festival in November brings the total to 65 screenings at major film festivals over the past three years, including Michael Brown's "Farther Than the Eye Can See," which won top awards at nine international festivals in 2003-2004 and was nominated for two Emmys.

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 16, 2004 -- Executive Producer Les Guthmans award-winning run as head of Outside Television may have ended when Outside magazine decided to close down its eight-year-old production division, but Guthmans adventure and expedition films continue to be honored on the film festival circuit.

After being recognized with five films selected by the Taos Mountain Film Festival and four chosen by the Durango Film Festival last winter … having Farther Than the Eye Can See," by director Michael Brown, nominated for two 2004 Emmy Awards (the awards for Best Sports Documentary and Best Sports Cinematography) ... and Messner," which Guthman also directed, screened on opening night at the Telluride MountainFilm Festival in May … he will be represented by five films, including Farther Than the Eye Can See" and Messner" at the prestigious 16th annual Graz International Adventure Film Festival in Graz, Austria in mid-November.

Guthmans three other films at Graz are Into the Thunder Dragon" and The Never Ending Thermal," by director Sean White, and The Yunnan Great Rivers Expedition," by director Jim Norton, narrated by his brother, actor Edward Norton. (Yunnan" premiered at the 2003 Santa Fe Film Festival.)

Graz will be the 65th screening of Guthman's productions at major film festivals over the past three years and the 22nd screening for Farther Than the Eye Can See," which premiered in high definition at Lincoln Center in May 2003. The story of blind mountaineer Erik Weihenmayers climb of Mt. Everest in 2001 and the first HD documentary from the summit of the worlds highest mountain, the film has won top awards at nine festivals, including the Special Jury Award at the Banff Film Festival, Best of Festival" awards at the Taos Mountain Film Festival and the Montreal International Adventure Film Festival, the Audience Award and Documentary Camera Award at the Newport Film Festival and the Special Jury Award at the Houston WorldFest Film Festival. Farther Than the Eye Can See" is currently airing in high definition on iNDEMANDs two HD channels, INHD and INHD 2.

There have been over 50 theatrical screenings of Farther Than the Eye Can See" in the U.S. and the film has raised more than $400,000 at benefit screenings for organizations aiding the blind.

In 2002, Guthmans films won two of the seven awards at the Explorers Club Film Festival in New York, three films were official selections of the Banff Film Festival and also were official selections of the Taos and Telluride MountainFilm festivals. His 2002 films included Scott Lindgrens epic first whitewater decent of the Everest" of rivers, Into the Tsangpo Gorge," and Michael Browns In the Shadow of the Condor," which won the Teddy Award, named after Pres. Teddy Roosevelt, for the nations best conservation film.
