Georgetown, CT (PRWEB) September 16, 2004 -- On September 8th the Redding Zoning Commission unanimously approved Georgetown Land Development Companys (GLDC) Master Plan for the redevelopment of the former Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill site. The Master Plan, as approved, is currently one of the largest redevelopment projects undertaken in Connecticut.
Stephen Soler, President of GLDC, stated: After two years of hard work the Redding Zoning Commission has approved the Master Plan for redeveloping the former Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill. We would not be standing here today, if the residents of the town had not taken an active role in the future development. When we began this process we wanted to ensure the town had an active voice in deciding the final outcome of this project. Since then we have actively encouraged and solicited feedback from the entire community. Last fall we held seven days of public meetings dedicated to understanding what residents and neighbors would like to see built. Todays approval means the public/private partnership we all created is a model for success."
Soler continued: With last nights approval we can now move onto the next phase, ensuring the vision residents helped create becomes a reality. This project is going to benefit not just the residents of Georgetown, but all of Redding and the state of Connecticut. We would like to thank the many people who offered their support of the project and without whom we would not have received approval. And we would especially like to thank our project team including; Project Counsel Richard S. Gibbons, Dave Beam of Roger Ferris & Partners – our lead project architect, John Block of Tighe & Bond, Susan VanBenschoten of Fitzgerald & Halliday – our traffic engineer and our environmental consultant Ken Kausch of Fuss & ONeill. Without their tireless efforts a new village in Georgetown would not be possible."
The Master Plan, submitted on June 9, 2004, details the redevelopment of the 55+/- acre former wire mill site. It contains: 416 residential units; 109,771sqf of retail and restaurant use; 113,525sf of office space; 88,488sqf of civic use; 38,428sqf of light industrial use and 18,258sqf of hospitality use.
The Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill site is owned by Georgetown Land Development Company (GLDC), a socially conscious real estate development firm, based in Georgetown, Connecticut. GLDC integrates smart growth ideals with sustainable green development principals. As owners of the 55 +/- acre site, GLDCs goal is to historically rehabilitate significant buildings and redevelop the property consistent with the towns current master plan insert of development for downtown Georgetown.
