Deerfield, IL (PRWEB) September 17, 2004 -- The worlds only conference for thyroid cancer survivors and their families will be held on October 22-24, 2004, at the Hyatt Deerfield Hotel, 1750 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield, Illinois, near Chicago. Conference sponsor is the national nonprofit organization ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors Association, Inc. (www.thyca.org ).

The 7th International Thyroid Cancer Survivors Conference will feature more than 50 speakers and over 70 sessions for people with all types of thyroid cancer, as well as family members and friends. Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine cancer and one of the few cancers that has increased in incidence in recent years.

Speakers include 15 physicians from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Texas, Northwestern University Medical School, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Chicago, Duke University Medical Center, Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, and other leading institutions around the country. The physicians specialties include endocrinology, surgery, nuclear medicine, pathology, and medical oncology.

Sessions are designed for people at all stages of testing, treatment, and follow-up. Many sessions will be of interest to people living with any kind of cancer. A pharmacist, attorneys specializing in health insurance and employment issues, cancer research nurses and other researchers, the editor of ThyCas free downloadable Low Iodine Cookbook, and thyroid cancer survivors and caregivers from 16 states are also among the speakers.

Topics include research advances, physician/patient communications, coping with thyroid cancers emotional impacts, self-care for well-being, long-term survivors perspectives, and caregiver issues. The conference has an informal, interactive format and includes small-group discussions and sharing sessions.

The conference has a nominal fee and is free to anyone who requests a scholarship on the registration form. Walk-in attendees are welcome, and advance registration is also available. The speaker list and registration form are on the ThyCa web site at www.thyca.org .
