Six Mayors Come to Open the Doors" and Welcome Homeless Families into San Diego's New Regional Center - Senior HUD Official on Homeless Programs Makes an Appearance From DC

Amid one of the hottest housing markets in the nation, some relief is finally on the way for those less fortunate. San Diego county, which has seen record numbers purchase half million dollar homes and city governments issue declarations of an affordable housing crisis, will soon get a huge boost as the new construction of a regional center designed to help families end their homelessness comes to a finishing point. The average age of the 120 homeless persons helped in this new center...is eight years old.

Vista, CA (PRWEB) September 18, 2004 -- While the new Solutions Family Center readies to open its doors in just a couple of weeks, over 200 supporters, donors, volunteers and civic leaders from all over the region, state and country will gather to celebrate the completion of this new 31,000 square foot, 33 unit supportive housing center. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, which will follow a Mayors Lunch attended by six Mayors and a senior HUD official on homeless programs from Washington D.C., along with future residents of the center, will take place on September 20 at 722 West California Avenue in Vista California.

What:   Ribbon Cutting and Community Celebration of a regional supportive housing center for homeless families in Vista, California. Developed by the partnership of North County Solutions for Change and Community HousingWorks. Private tours for the media available between 9am – 11am.

Who:    Confirmed attendance of County of San Diego Supervisor Bill Horn, Vista Mayor Morris Vance, Carlsbad Mayor Bud Lewis, Oceanside Mayor Terry Johnston, Escondido Mayor Lori Holt Pfeiler, Encinitas Mayor Maggie Houlihan, San Marcos Mayor pro tem Mike Preston. Also confirmed keynote speaker: Mark Johnston, Director Office of Special Needs Assistance Programs, Community Planning and Development, HUD. Richard Rainey, appointed by President George W. Bush, Mr. Rainey is Regional Director and directs ten HUD offices in California, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii. Numerous local elected officials and state and federal representatives also attending. Homeless families awaiting move-in day available for interview.

The Solutions Family Center will enhance the ability of North County Solutions for Change, an organization with a proven track record of helping the homeless, to lend a hand to those in need," Congressman Darrell Issa said.
