Bristol, RI (PRWEB) September 19, 2004 -- Michael L. Martels recently-completed historical mystery novel, The Kapellmeister Conspiracy", is complete, and the author is seeking an agent and a publisher for the new book. This novel will appeal to a wide audience, and particularly those who like historical settings, mystery, action, and adventure.
A mysterious fragment of a lost Mozart opera, a murder, and a shadowy occult society more than two centuries old set the stage for college student Ted Wheelers inadvertent plunge into a tug of war between light and darkness. Where is the kings ransom in Ottoman gold paid to murder an Austrian Emperor? Was the premature death of a famous composer faked, and why? Ted and his friends must unravel the mystery of a piece of torn musical score, a tantalizing fragment of a melody so beautiful that it could only have come from the hand of the Master.
The Kapellmeister Conspiracy is also a love story set against the backdrop of a dangerous hunt for treasure; for While Ted seeks answers and devises a plan to find the rest of the missing opera score, he and his friends learn that they have competition from a shadowy and ruthless group known as the Illuminati, a secret society with its roots in the radical, politically-charged Masonic lodges of 18th-Century Vienna. As the plot unfolds, Ted and company come to learn the unlucky story of how one of the worlds greatest composers became entangled in a web of evil, deceit, and possibly regicide. The unknown location of a fortune in gold is at stake, and so, they learn eventually, are their own lives.
Help along the way – and across two centuries – comes from an unlikely group of characters – a sword-wielding priest who was once a mercenary soldier; a student of Mozart who was called upon to finish a Requiem; an oddball collector and seller of ephemera and rare books who is as incompetent as he is dangerous; and a frugal treasure-hunting Yankee from Connecticut who spends his time picking through old dumps and demolition sites.
