Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) January 7, 2005 -- The hearts and minds of a select group of entrepreneurs will race when they have the opportunity to present their companies, meet potential investors and develop strategic alliances at the second annual Southeast Venture Capital Forum. Venture capitalists from around the country will be in town to hear these presentations and enjoy themselves by either playing golf or driving Porsches at the Barber Motorsports Park. The forum will be held at the Birmingham, Ala. Hilton Hotel, April 13-14, 2005. Companies interested in presenting should apply as soon as possible after reviewing the events website, www.SEVenCap.org.
The Alabama Information Technology Association, the Biotechnology Association of Alabama, the Birmingham Venture Club and TechBirmingham are again joining forces to host this event. Last years forum was very successful for a first time event. Fifteen companies from a broad range of industries presented to an audience of over 150 attendees, including more than 40 venture capitalists from 10 different states. We are acting on feedback from last years attendees to make the forum even better, including by increasing the number of companies presenting and adding more information-technology companies to the mix. Given the success of our inaugural forum, the quality of deals should be even better this year," says James Childs, Partner – Bradley Arant Rose and White LLP, and immediate past president of the Birmingham Venture Club.
Wayne Brown Institute (WBI), one of the nations most successful nonprofit venture accelerators, will continue to play an integral role in this years Southeast Venture Capital Forum by providing their mentoring expertise to guide presenting companies through the venture capital process. According to Brad Bertoch, president of WBI, Birmingham is the ideal location for a spring venture capital forum. In addition to its central location in the region, it has a vibrant investment community and numerous untapped technological and financial resources." Each fall and winter in Hawaii and Utah, WBI conducts a similar conference called Investors Choice. In 2004, the Southeast Venture Capital Forum became the setting for WBIs annual spring event.
The conference is geared toward companies that have proprietary technology, a strong management team, and credible expectations of doing $50-100 million a year in sales in 3-5 years. Companies meeting these criteria must submit an application to present at the conference. Applications are screened by a panel of venture capitalists. All submissions receive a detailed exclusive Cooperative Venturing Analyst Report outlining the strengths and weaknesses of their proposal as interpreted by the venture community. Selected companies are then asked to develop a 10 minute Road Show" presentation that will be presented during the conference to a wide range of investors from the U.S. and other nations.
The theme for this years forum is Stay in the Race." The conferences extracurricular activities will once again be the Barber Motorsports Park. In addition to networking with venture capitalists from around the country, conference attendees will also have an opportunity to participate in a one-day Porsche Driving Experience or play golf at one of Birminghams premiere courses.
Susan Matlock, executive director of the Office for Advancement of Developing Industries (OADI) Technology Center at UAB, is excited about the Southeast Venture Capital Forum, We are enthusiastic about this venture capital conference being here in Birmingham because of the resource it is for new start-ups in the high technology industry, especially information technology and bio-technology related companies. We expect outside investors attending the forum will find this an ideal place to invest in business ventures."
