Creating Positive Outcomes, LLC. Experiences Increased Patients for Counseling from Tsunami

Counselors at Creating Positive Outcomes see the damage done in Asia by the Tsunami and the mental stress close to home.

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) January 10, 2005 -- Creating Positive Outcomes President and Chief Executive Officer, Christine Hardway has noted an increase in patients seeking counseling as a direct result of the Asian Tsunami. Even though the event was half a world away, Creating Positive Outcomes clients are reporting symptoms of depression and despair. Ms. Hardway comments, Counselors are reporting the regular physical symptoms: digestive problems, changes in appetite, difficulty sleeping, migraines and mental symptoms: depression and heightened anxiety that we typically see during critical incident stress debriefing for natural disasters. It is amazing what we are seeing now compared to the aftermath of the hurricanes that hit here in Tampa and all of Florida last year. The reaction of clients to the tsunami, although less widespread than after the hurricanes, has been noticeable since just after Christmas and it continues to rise along with our response. The tsunami disaster was on another continent, yet it seems to have touched people here in the United States. Perhaps our clients reactions are due to the media coverage and the disaster coinciding with the holiday season. In any event, we are certainly seeing an increase in traffic at Creating Positive Outcomes"

"By their nature, our clients are particularly sensitive to natural disasters. Unfortunately, lessons learned from the hurricanes last summer and in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks point out our clients are particularly vulnerable to sudden unforeseen natural or man-made disasters. Many of our clients still have not fully recovered from the devastating impact 9/11 and the string of hurricanes. We are updating our response strategy to immediately go into a Disaster Mode whenever a disaster strikes. We are going to have counselors proactively contact past clients. Our counseling is confidential and done by certified critical incident stress debriefing counselors who realize our clients may feel isolated." Ms. Hardway remarked.
