The Rotary Club of Amherst East, in Amherst, New York, will sell 850 $10.00 tickets to raise funds for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo's Amherst Clubhouse, and VIVE Inc. VIVE Inc.'s Vive la Casa provides food, shelter, medical, legal, and other services to refugees who would otherwise be homeless in the city of Buffalo.

(PRWEB) January 11, 2005 -- The Rotary Club of Amherst East launched the sale of tickets for its first Raffle. The raffle will raise money for two important causes:
- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo Amherst Clubhouse (http://www.bgca.org)
- Vive la Casa (http://www.vivelacasa.org/)

As we focus this year on celebrating Rotarys 100th anniversary, we want to do all we can to support the areas needs" said Paul McAfee, president of the Rotary Club of Amherst East. By raising money with a raffle, we can continue our support of these two important causes."

The club will limit sales to 850 tickets, increasing the chance of winning for purchasers. The winner will receive a system worth $4,500 that includes:
- Sony 42" Enhanced Plasma Screen TV (model KE42M1)
- Sony home theater in a box system (model HT6800DP)
- Delivery and installation from Stereo Advantage (www.stereoadvantage.com)

Winners may select a cash alternative of $4,000.00 instead of the Sony Plasma TV & sound system. Tickets cost $10.00 or three tickets for $25.00. The club will announce the winner on May 15, 2005.

The Rotary Club of Amherst East raises money through its many events. The club provides support each year for international and local causes. This year, the club joined three other Amherst Rotary clubs to help the Boys & Girls Clubs purchase a van for their Amherst Clubhouse.

The Rotary Club of Amherst East also supports Vive la Casa (VIVE, Inc. – www.vivelacasa.org). The club provides support directly through fund raising events like its annual wine tasting party, and by helping the Interact Club of Williamsville East High School support VIVE. Since 1984, VIVE has assisted asylum seekers making their way into Canada. VIVE provides food, shelter, medical, legal, and other services to refugees who would otherwise be homeless in the city of Buffalo.

Throughout the years, despite numerous language and cultural differences, VIVE's staff has dedicated themselves to welcoming these refugees into the community and easing their transition into North American culture.

Our club decided that we should help VIVE overcome the negative effects of major recent government aid cuts," McAfee said.

As a volunteer organization with over 31,000 clubs in more than 166 countries, Rotary initiates humanitarian programs that address today's challenging issues, such as hunger, poverty, and illiteracy.

Rotary club members represent a cross-section of business and professional leaders worldwide. These 1.2 million men and women donate their expertise, time, and money to support local and international projects that help people in need and promote understanding among cultures.

Rotary's flagship program is its effort to protect children against the polio, with the goal of ending the disease throughout the world.

Paul P. Harris formed the world's first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, USA, on 23 February 1905. The name Rotary is derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among members' offices. The Rotary Club of Amherst East is part of Rotary International.

The Amherst East Rotary Club meets at noon on Thursdays at Daffodils Restaurant on Maple Road, Amherst, NY. The clubs new website is www.amhersteastrotary.org.
