Worcester Area Snip-its Salon to Host Valentine's Charity Event Benefiting Locks of Love

Snip-its Haircuts for Kids in the Shoppes at Blackstone Valley will host a Valentine's weekend charity event on February 12 and 13 to benefit Locks of Love, a not-for-profit organization that provides hairpieces made of real hair to financially disadvantaged children with medical hair loss. During the Snip-a-thon, Snip-its will provide free haircuts to both children and adults who donate 10" or more of their hair. Those with hair that is less than 10" in length are also invited to donate, as Locks of Love sells shorter lengths to help offset the cost of hairpiece production. Prizes will be awarded for various donor "competitions" and entertainment will be provided throughout the weekend.

(PRWEB) January 18, 2005 -- To celebrate their first Valentines Day in operation, Snip-its Haircuts for Kids in the Shoppes at Blackstone Valley will host a special charity event on February 12 and 13 to benefit Locks of Love, a not-for-profit organization that provides hairpieces made of real hair to financially disadvantaged children with medical hair loss.

During the Snip-a-thon, Snip-its will provide free haircuts to both children and adults who donate 10" or more of their hair. Snip-its stylists will carefully package and send the precious locks of hair directly to Locks of Love. Those with hair that is less than 10" in length are also invited to donate, as Locks of Love sells shorter lengths to help offset the cost of hairpiece production. A prize will be awarded to the donor of the longest hair.

Our target is to donate at least 20 ponytails of 10" or longer," states Lisa Hunter, Owner of Snip-its Millbury location. Were excited about the chance to support Locks of Love because the missions of both of our organizations center on kids. Locks of Love is a charity where children get the opportunity to help other children. Our hope is that Snip-its can help connect kids who have hair to give with others kids who desperately need it."

The Snip-a-thon will also include special appearances throughout the weekend by local entertainers, including magician Steven Craig. Games, prizes, and a silent auction will add to the festivities.

Locks of Love (www.locksoflove.org) was founded in 1997 and has helped over 1,000 children. Their custom, vacuum-fitted hairpieces are made entirely from donated hair and do not require the use of tape or glue. Most recipients suffer from an autoimmune condition called alopecia areata, for which there is no known cause or cure. Others have suffered from severe burns, or endured radiation treatment to the brain stem, in addition to many other dermatological conditions that resulted in permanent hair loss.

Founded in 1995, Natick-based Snip-its Corporation (www.snipits.com) is one of the countrys fastest-growing childrens hair care chains. Its proven success lies in offering an amazing adventure for children while focusing on their specific hair care needs. Snip-its is the only fully developed entertainment concept in the childrens hair care market today. In 2004, Snip-its grew from 5 successful company-owned salons to include franchises in Massachusetts, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Texas, Ohio, South Carolina, and Connecticut.
