Electronic Recycling Association of Alberta expands its program

Calgary, Alberta (PRWEB) January 19, 2005 -- In 2004, ERA along with its many partners in reducing the amount of electronic waste in Albertas landfills jointly prevented upwards of 700,000 pounds of computers and electronics from being buried in our landfills.

Electronic Recycling Association has been providing its recycling services to companies and groups throughout Alberta and at the same time been providing local and foreign charitable organizations, schools and daycares with working computers and electronics.

To grasp their contribution to the Alberta environment, this year their efforts have prevented 6 times the height of the Calgary tower of computer towers stacked on top of each other from going into the landfills. 6 times the height of the Calgary tower of computer monitors, 3 times the height of Calgary tower of televisions.
Many of these computers were collected from landfills, local companies and government agencies.

The positive environmental impact is hard to measure, but what is easy to measure is the benefit to the society. Upwards of 200 recent and refurbished computers were donated free of charge to local charitable and non profit organizations, as well as poor daycares.

This number may seem small, but in fact is very large considering the computers donated were higher end systems, which ERA comes across very rarely. Most of the computer equipment collected by the ERA was in the -386/486/low end Pentium 1 range.

100% of the ERA recycling efforts are funded by the non profit organizations ability to recover value out of otherwise useless equipment. The ERA is always looking for donations of computers and electronics, working or not to use in its many programs.

To celebrate the holiday season, the ERA is offering a free pickup of all usable computer and electronic equipment to companies in Calgary.

The New Year holds many exciting things for the ERA, such as Canada wide expansions, major retailers contributing to the associations efforts, as well as helping new charities with working computers and electronics.

To donate, or to ask for a donation please contact the ERA directly, as well as for any media comments.
