New Interface Allows TSP700 to become one of the First Printers that Directly Connect to Handhelds, Thereby Saving Time and Increasing Efficiency

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 31, 2005 -- Star Micronics America announces the development of a wireless interface(802.11b) in response the ever-growing popularity of WLAN in many of the applications in which the TSP700 can be used. The TSP700 is a high-speed thermal printer with a print speed of 60 lines/sec and can also print barcodes very quickly. Print resolution is 203 dpi.

The TSP700/wireless interface configuration can bring a number of customer benefits in POS, restaurant, and hospitality applications. In POS systems, customers can use a handheld device with a scanner. Once they have scanned and paid for their purchases with a credit card, the wireless connection allows the information to be sent (up to approx. 150 ft.) to the TSP700 and a receipt is printed. This can dramatically reduce the time customers spend on line. For restaurants applications, the TSP700 can be directly linked to handheld devices used by wait staff to take orders, resulting in those orders wirelessly reaching the kitchen faster. The TSP700 can also be used for wireless check-in/check-out systems in hospitality establishments.

Star has partnered with Bachmann Software, a leader in wireless productivity software for handhelds and smartphones, to develop a wireless solution for Star Micronics TSP700 thermal printer. With the interface, the TSP700 becomes one of the first printers that can directly connect to a handheld device, dramatically simplifying and expediting printing in WLAN (wireless local area networks) applications.

The TSP700 thermal printer can accommodate three different paper widths up to 82.5 mm. Its external paper feed capability makes the TSP700 well suited for large capacity rolls, forms, and security applications. The printer has dual cash drawer drivers, and is compatible with all the popular OS drivers. It can be designed with one of several interfaces, such as USB, Ethernet, Parallel, and RS232C.
