OConnor illuminates how faith guides decisions to the challenges of daily life at the Catholics@Work breakfast event which will be held at Crow Canyon Country Club, 711 Silver Lake Drive, Danville, CA 94526 on Tuesday, October 11, 2005.
Danville, CA (PRWEB) October 4, 2005 -- Catholics@Work, a fellowship of individuals who explore how to actively live ones beliefs in the workplace, (www.catholicsatwork.org), today announced its October 2005 breakfast meeting will feature John D. OConnor, attorney and author of the Vanity Fair article, "I'm the Guy They Called Deep Throat". The Catholics@Work breakfast event will be held at Crow Canyon Country Club, 711 Silver Lake Drive, Danville, CA 94526 on Tuesday, October 11, 2005. A full buffet breakfast is served starting at 6:45am (Mass is offered at 6:15am at the same location.) Cost is $20 for members and $27 for non-members. O'Connor will talk about his discovery of the identity of Deep Throat (W. Mark Felt), the voice that toppled the Nixon presidency, and about his efforts to make this knowledge public. For the three years, John counseled Mark Felt and his family about whether and how any revelation about Deep Throat should be handled. John took on the matter pro bono, and fulfilled multiple duties, which included dealing with Bob Woodward, negotiating with agents and publishers, enlisting potential journalists, and finally, as the matter developed, authoring the article in Vanity Fair.
In his career as a lawyer, John has faced many situations that tempted his commitment to his Catholic faith and moral values. John will share his experiences, challenges and how his faith helped him to make tough decisions.
My faith has guided me through the tremendously frightening uncertainties of the Deep Throat revelation process," said John D. OConnor. Mark Feldman's spiritual life was ultimately his salvation from thirty years of worry that he would be seen to have shamed the FBI that he cared so deeply about. At his advanced age, Mark has experienced profound joy and peace knowing that in a time of great moral crisis, he chose to answer to the highest part of his spirit."
History is nothing more than current events plus time," said Rick Mederios, president of Catholics@Work. All too often we forget the emotional side of any historical event as we examine it from a distance of 30, 50 or 300 years or more. Johns story has a way of involving us in the timeless, emotional, ethical tug-of-war that underlies great historical and everyday events."
O'Connor is a director in the Litigation Group of Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin. His practice focuses on product liability, intellectual property, and business tort litigation. He is listed as a 2004 Northern California Super Lawyer by the Northern California Super Lawyers Magazine (a publication in conjunction with Law and Politics and San Francisco Magazine).
Concentrating on highly-contentious factual disputes likely to be tried to jury, Mr. OConnor has represented high-tech, biotech, sports, advertising and insurance industry clients, as well as high net worth individuals. He currently directs the firms Insurance Practice, and is highly experienced in intellectual property litigation. Mr. OConnor received his J.D. from University of Michigan and his A.B. from Notre Dame University (magna cum laude, Political Science).
