A True Indie: 'Jane the Stalker' Gains Momentum As Cybil Lake's First Feature Film Screens In New York This Week

Writer, director, actor Cybil Lake screens her debut film for industry and press.

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 10, 2005 –- The dark comedy ‘Jane the Stalker’ begins industry and press screenings in New York this week. This is Cybil Lake’s first feature film which she wrote, directed and starred. Visit janethestalker.com.

“I’m thrilled to screen this film in New York this week!” Cybil the blonde petite, high energy dynamo exclaimed.

‘Jane the Stalker’ is a film about a young woman who follows a series of men, videotapes them, then crosses the boundary and enters their lives. Her stalking begins light and fun, but quickly transforms into a darker more desperate pursuit.

Cybil Lake who attended NYU Tisch School of the Arts, conceived of this dark comedy ‘Jane the Stalker’ after experiencing several stalkers of her own in New York.

“The film was created from my own fear, intrigue and questions about their behaviors. And as I studied them, I recognized aspects of myself in these stalkers. These individuals, so obsessed with absolute or virtual strangers, were not unlike myself at certain times when I felt curious or connected to someone that I scarcely knew. It's easy to go too far when one feels passionate about someone. When that someone doesn't reciprocate one's interest, or maybe doesn't even know about it, obsession is born.”

“With ‘Jane the Stalker,’ I attempted to create a film that manifests some of the fear, humor, desperation and excited rush of a stalker.”

The film, shot primarily in New York City, was made on and off for a few years. “We shot when we could, edited when we could. I didn’t intend to take so long to make my first film! I’m confident my next film will be quicker, smoother production.” Cybil has a few scripts that she aims to make next.
