Connect Computing officially supports Kolab.
(PRWEB) October 12, 2005 -- Connect Computing launches Enterprise Suite.
Connect Computing, working with Kolab and Linux enterprise solutions, announces a broad range of applications that can be used by medium to large businesses.
This suite of applications can be installed on typical Linux servers and is built on top of the Enterprise level groupware server, Kolab.
Kolab combines IMAP email, LDAP directory, and half a dozen other services configured to work together. These open source applications can replace Microsoft Exchange and Windows Server services. Using Enterprise Level applications means the services can be spread or replicated over multiple servers and domains if needed allowing hundreds or even thousands of users to access the system.
"This is not a box set and takes a week or two to implement. However, it is a far cry from spending months migrating systems," said Roy Hoobler of Connect Computing. "For larger distributed systems, it might tkae months or even a year to get everything just right, but that depends on the business. We hope that if the business can move in phases, a month or two will be sufficient," Roy continued.
Most small or medium businesses have no problems paying user licensing fees but as the organization grows, even with 50 people, it can become quite expensive paying $100 per user each year.
The basic setup starts at $5,000. For migration or customization a company might double or even double or triple that cost, but over approximately 3-5 years the purchase pays for itself. If the company grows to 100 or 200 people the savings can really add up since no additional user licenses are added on. "Our fee to implement the solution covers that first year or two but after that, the savings really add up. Also, people don't realize that commercial apps may cost $5,000/year but consulting, implementation, and support fees are on top of that. Enterprise solutions are not cheap but spending half the budget on licenses doesn't make much sense."
Being able to tap into open projects like Thunderbird, SugarCRM, and Jabber (at no additional cost), the company and the users get many more features than standard software providers at this price point.
Kolab and KDE have been gaining market share in Europe. Connect Computing expects systems like Kolab to start gaining momentum in the U.S. Much of their business comes from offering Open Source software developed in Europe and India. As Linux becomes more accepted in medium businesses that want to grow to the enterprise-level, solutions like Kolab and SugarCRM.
Other such products offered by Connect Computing include SQL-Ledger (Germany), NoMachine (Italy), and vTiger (India).
