A huge crowd turned out for the North County for Katrina Benefit, a benefit concert designed to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The event raised more then $18,000 to aid hurricane relief efforts.
Carlsbad, CA (PRWEB) October 14, 2005 -- A huge crowd turned out for the North County for Katrina Benefit, a benefit concert designed to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The event raised more then $18,000 to aid hurricane relief efforts.
“The response from the community was amazing, we were just glad we could be apart of it,” said Marc & Nedra Fabito, of Strategic Tax Resolutions, who underwrote the cost of the event so that the proceeds could be donated to the disaster relief.
It was standing room only at the Martini Ranch in Encinitas as a huge crowd turned out for the North County for Katrina Benefit, a benefit concert designed to raise money for the victims of Katrina. “If every night were like tonight, we would have a very difficult time closing our doors,” said Brian Nagel, general manager of the Martini Ranch, Encinitas. “To see such an outpouring of generosity and caring makes us proud to be part of these communities.” The Martini Ranch donated all the proceeds from food and beverage sales for the evening as well as the venue cover charge.
Attendees were treated to a show by several southern California natives. The show featured pro surfer and singer/songwriter Timmy Curran, Alex Woodard, Sara and Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek and a variety of other area musicians. Spearheading the event, Leucadia musician Alex Woodard said the benefit was “very special” and felt as though it served as a “testament to what people can do for each other when they come together.”
Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry, received a large portion of the proceeds from the event to help hurricane victims rebuild. Representatives of the North Shore Animal league were present to accept almost $9,000 to help in the search and rescue and placement efforts for disaster-stricken pets.
“The response from the people in the community was something like I have never seen before, said Erin Lee Hawk, resident of Leucadia and organizer of the benefit show and auction. In between sets, the crowd was given the opportunity to bid on silent auction items donated by Tony Hawk, Danny Way, DC shoes, Switchfoot, Bucky Lasek, Nixon, INT Surfboards, Billabong, Mat Hoffman, Andy Howell, 91X and Fender.
