SMB Leverages Technology to Defy Post Katrina Obstacles and Stay in Business

New Orleans based firm uses online business collaboration suite to ensure business continuity despite the hurdles from Katrina.

Vienna, VA (PRWEB) October 12, 2005 -- As businesses slowly move back into the regions affected by Katrina, some have been lucky enough to find their workplaces intact. However, an office is only as effective as the workers in it. Many workers are still not able to return to New Orleans to fill their office spaces. Their houses have been destroyed, and workers are displaced around the country and may not be returning for some time.

One such SMB experiencing this roadblock is 365 Connect, a community housing communications firm, located in New Orleans. While the office was located on the 28th floor and left largely unaffected by the floodwaters below, employees were not so lucky. Many had their homes destroyed or have not been allowed back yet. This left 365Connect with a problem: How to keep business continuity without workers in the office.

HyperOffice will enable communications among our staff while we are still scattered about. It will also allow us access to all our contacts and important documents from anyplace on the planet.
365Connect turned to online business collaboration provider HyperOffice for the solution. Kerry Kirby CEO of Intradel, 365's parent company, explains, "HyperOffice will enable communications among our staff while we are still scattered about. It will also allow us access to all our contacts and important documents from anyplace on the planet." Using HyperOffice, 365Connect has turned into a "virtual office".

HyperOffice will be playing a role in 365Connects's business continuity strategy and disaster plan. Mr. Kirby asserts, "Katrina wiped out 621,973 housing units between Louisiana and Mississippi, our development company plans to assist in rebuilding these communities along the Gulf Coast. As we have deployed personnel to Mississippi to work on projects there, HyperOffice is keeping us connected and is the hub for us to pass documents back and forth. It will be a vital tool for us going forward."

Mr. Kirby finishes by saying, "(We) can fully appreciate what HyperOffice has done for the backbone of America, the small business use. While the bulk of the software industry gears their products to the large corporate users, HyperOffice has maintained the roots from which all businesses evolve."
