New novel by David Roddy, a heartwarming story about cancer, can now be played on Apple iPods

BOSTON, MA (PRWEB) October 14, 2005 -- Today SBS Press joined major publishers Simon & Shuster, Little Brown, Farrar Straus & Giroux, Henry Holt, Picador, and St. Martin's by offering online MP3 audio podcast book excerpts that can be downloaded and played on Apple iPods and other MP3 players.

The first series of SBS Press podcasts of its new book North Pond Dawn by David Roddy, a heartwarming story about cancer, will be listed in the recently opened Yahoo! Podcasts directory and be available for easy download from their site via an RSS feed.

The MP3 audio podcasts of North Pond Dawn are also available on the book’s website, www.northponddawn.com . The site includes a dozen excerpts from the book totaling over 50 megabytes with over a half hour playing time.

Roddy explained, “This is a way to personally reach our readers and communicate the warmth of the book. Plus we will be posting additional MP3 audio interviews, memories, and discussions in the coming months. I enjoy talking about the book and can use the podcasts to explore aspects of my life with my fiancée Shin that aren’t in the published version.”

According to Song Bok Soon, the CEO of SBS Press, “Before he learned that he had incurable cancer, David Roddy was an internationally acclaimed technology and Internet consultant, so he is right up to date on the new ways of delivering audio to Apple iPods and other MP3 players. So it was easy for SBS Press to join the major publishers who are starting to offer audio content over the Internet in this exciting Podcast revolution.”

She explained that the marketing aspect of the podcasts helps independent publishers like SBS Press, “Readers tell us that it is inspiring to hear the author reading sections of the book and to hear him talk about other aspects of his life. So we foster a continuing relationship with existing readers of North Pond Dawn who might mention the book to their friends. Plus the diversity of the audio clips available give potential customers a nice preview of the book so they can see if they would like to buy it.”
