Civil War book pitting New York Times and Charleston Mecury as arch-opposites captures British interest.

(PRWEB) October 16, 2005 -- “Times of the Civil War,” the book pitting the New York Times and the Charleston Mercury as arch-opposites in the American Civil War has garnered another glowing review from abroad, this one from the Review editors at Online Review in the United Kingdom.

“Don Bracken captures the essence of the American Civil War in this mammoth contribution to war studies,” the review stated... “the wealth of historical material is presented clearly and concisely. Through the eyes and ink of war correspondents who were on the ground as the battles unfolded, you get a real taste of history as it was being made.”

Concluding that it is “a ‘must read’ for students and teachers of the American Civil War," the review added that “...it is a fascinating read. The book will also appeal to those interested in journalistic writing.”

“‘Times of the Civil War,’ was undertaken with those goals in mind,” said author Don Bracken.” The Civil War was an incredibly vast and intense war and it did give rise to American journalism forcing it into a reportage mode and away from the editorial rant sheet it was prior to Fort Sumter. It is gratifying to see that the reviewer picked up on those points..”

Don Bracken is Senior Editor of History Publishing Company LLC a firm dedicated to the study of American History though technology and the co-editor of the Civil War Historyscope Series, a computerized plotting of the 384 major battles and 132 campaigns of the Civil War. The Series is used in schools throughout the nation.

“Times of the Civil War” (ISBN 1420806955) is available at select bookstores and on Amazon and other Internet book sites.
