Powerful reporting product adds precision management functions for efficient work group administration; new administrative application programming interface eases implementation.
McLean, VA (PRWEB) October 21, 2005 -- LogiXML, Inc. today announces general availability of the new LGX Ad Hoc Report Builder Command Edition. LogiXML Ad Hoc Report Builder Command Edition adds a new level of management and security capabilities for administering the environment for ad hoc query users. These functions are valuable for both Application Service Providers (ASPs) and business organizations with specialized work groups responsible for defined functions using the Ad Hoc product.
The new group administration capabilities support separating database information and reports from each group for more efficient management. These capabilities can be extended to a Users Group Administrator who can more precisely manage the environment to the priorities of the work group. Role-based security segregates the data available to each group. Administering groups and roles is easy using either web-based tools, or the new application programmer interface (API).
“Our customers are expanding their base of LGX Ad Hoc Report Builder users everyday and these users are in turn driving more sophisticated applications. Many of these applications involve extending query privileges to workgroups with common needs,” said Dave Ploger, LogiXML VP of Product Development. “LGX Ad Hoc Report Builder Command Edition provides administrators with a new pallet of tools to optimize their Ad Hoc environment for each workgroup while reducing the administrative burden on the corporate IS administration."
Group Administration
User Group management makes it easy to separate database information and reports from each group. Users from one group do not see the same data and reports as those in other groups. New User Group Administrators functions support:
·Adding and managing user accounts for the User Group
·Setting user roles
·Viewing and editing user reports and a group's shared reports
·Managing scheduling and archiving of group's reports.
Logging Features
Protecting confidential data from unauthorized scrutiny is paramount for data services providers. The new Logging feature details access to reports and other documents in LGX Ad Hoc Report Builder Ad Hoc, providing a tool for discovery and prevention of unsanctioned data access. Additionally, the data collected by logging user activity may be used to determine the usefulness of reports.
Detailed information about users, reports and data is collected in the log. Making the logging component even more useful is the ability to query the log database and organize results into reports that will assist administrators in spotting trends or unusual activity. Enabling the logging facility makes the system administrator more effective in providing secure and pertinent data access.
Logging also provides timing information to help monitor web and database server performance.
New API and Additional Features
LGX Ad Hoc Report Builder Command Edition includes an API that exposes the functions that create and manage users, enabling a programmer to automatically manage security in Ad Hoc without having to go through the LGX Ad Hoc UI. The .NET API is handy for programmatically integrating customers’ systems with Ad Hoc’s.
Additional features include AutoLink which allows users to link reports to related web pages and applications. The improved Microsoft Word Export extends the range of export formats that already includes Adobe .PDF file native export and Excel native export of reports.
An Open Alternative
LGX Ad Hoc Report Builder Command Edition is based on an open, portable XML standard that does not lock users into saving reports in proprietary binary files. It is the base component of LogiXML’s complete Business Intelligence Report Development Platform. In addition to the Ad Hoc product LogiXML offers a complete line of web-based reporting products including the basis LGX Report product available for free download and premium offerings LGX Report Plus and LGX Info.
LGX Ad Hoc Report Builder Command Edition supports all major databases including Oracle, DB2, Sybase, SQL Server, Cache and MySQL and can be deployed across any .NET architecture.
