San Fransisco, CA — October 19, 2005 — My Own Bag has introduced its new collection of reusable shopping bags. The company launched last year and has shifted perceptions of reusable shopping bags, from utilitarian to stylish accessories. The new collection of bags will be shown at wholesale events throughout October. The bag was designed for people who care about both style and the environment. Even with great strides in environmental awareness and recycling, there are still serious problems concerning single use shopping bags. Billions of shopping bags are used in the US each year. Millions of barrels of oil are consumed in their production, and additional energy for their manufacturing and transportation. Only 1% of plastic bags are returned for recycling. Used only briefly, most end up in the garbage or polluting our environment. Each year 100,000 marine animals are unnecessarily killed due to plastic bags. (see: resources)
“We need to shift our lifestyles to focus on waste reduction,” states Ania Moniuszko, Designer, MY OWN BAG. “Many grocery stores now pay 3 to 10 cents per bag to customers who bring their own bag. Our bags are stylish, ergonomic, easy to care for, and compact enough to carry every day, so you’ll have it with you when you need it.”
