Ethical Computer Recycling for London UK
(PRWEB) October 24, 2005 -- Secretary of State for environment Margaret Beckett MP said, "Maxitech must be congratulated on adopting a proactive approach to the Waste Electronic Electrical Equipment directive and in providing training and employment opportunities in this field for unemployed people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Facilities like Maxitech will be key to fulfilling the UK's obligations under the WEEE directive to reuse, treat and recycle waste electrical equipment."
Maxitech is a socially and environmentally focused company which takes old computers no longer needed by large organisations and brings them back into use for the benefit of smaller organisations and charitable groups. On October 31 a donation programme will be launched in partnership with Haringey Council in North London which will see reconditioned computers handed over to more than 300 such organisations.
Maxitech has also provided more than 100 training opportunities for people from disadvantage backgrounds such as unemployed refugees and ethic minorities.
Last month Maxitech boss Peter Paduh received the London Day Award from Mayor Ken Livingstone in recognition of his "outstanding contribution to life in London." He is also a finalist in the London Business Awards 2005, Young Business Person of the Year category.
Maxitech recently won a grant from the London Recycling Fund to open a new computer recycling centre in Hornsey, North London, later this year, increasing the training opportunities for local unemployed people to 200 a year.
Companies such as Camden Council, Shell London, Lloyd's of London and the Bank of England have benefited from the ethical solution provided for their redundant computers.
Maxitech boss, Peter Paduh, 28, came to London on his own as a refugee from Bosnia at the age of 15. He ran his first business at the age of 12, selling Commodore 64 computers to friends and small businesses, and launched Maxitech two years ago.
Paduh said, "Having come to the UK with only 30 Deutschmarks in my pocket and probably about the same amount of English words in my vocabulary, I managed to obtain a computer science degree and work for Gateway computers and Microsoft UK. It is fantastic to now be able to give something back to the community that supported me when I first arrived. We live in a throw-away society where we often ignore opportunities that old equipment can afford to the underprivileged. Maxitech provides often-neglected communities with access to technology and at the same time benefits the environment."
