ISIS Papyrus, a global leader in business document systems, has introduced the first deep-integrated application and system security for enterprise content management (ECM). The ISIS Papyrus Document System incorporates six elements into its fully integrated security system.

Southlake, TX (PRWEB) October 31, 2005 -- ISIS Papyrus, a global leader in business document systems, has introduced the first deep-integrated application and system security for enterprise content management (ECM).

The ISIS Papyrus Document System incorporates six elements into its fully integrated security system:

  • Authentication – ensure that a user is identified with certainty;
  • Confidentiality – encrypt the document and data transmissions;
  • Authorization – control what someone can do with a document or workflow;
  • Accountability – track what someone does with a document;
  • Authenticity – verify the originality and source of a document, and
  • Auditing – able to create a full record of compliance.

“The Papyrus Document System provides perfect control over how, when, and by whom your documents are captured, created, accessed, changed, deleted, and archived,” said Annemarie Pucher, co-founder and head of global sales for ISIS Papyrus. “In addition to reducing risk, the Papyrus security integration improves productivity, simplifies log-on procedures, and lowers the cost of ensuring regulatory compliance.”

For user authentication, the Papyrus system integrates SmartCard User Authentication plus a PIN or biometric fingerprint identification, rather than a password system. Using a SmartCard with fingerprint reader ensures a user’s identity and enforces compliance without the possibility for human error. Once the card is pulled from the reader, all Papyrus applications (and optionally the workstation) are locked out. Since the user certificate and fingerprint are securely stored on the card, authentication does not require network access.

Papyrus ensures confidentiality by encrypting the data transmissions and all data objects stored. For Web applications, Papyrus uses HTTPs, the secure version of HTTP, the communication protocol of the World Wide Web. It provides authentication and encrypted communication for browser access to a WebPortal server.

Authorization defines what a person, once identified, is permitted to do with an application or system resource. Papyrus Objects uses an integrated authorization system to ensure that no user or program can access or do anything without the proper authorization.

Papyrus achieves accountability through a combination of user authentication and setting up the auditing functions for a workflow and its related documents. The user’s role and policy determine what he or she can access, and all activities of the user also can be written into an audit log.

Papyrus achieves and maintains authenticity through a combination of encryption, digital signature, and change in workflow status. At this point, the document, such as a contract, can only be opened by authorized parties. As long as the signature is intact, the authenticity of the document can be verified without the need for storing the document to Write-Only media. Only users who have the authority to access the public key of the document can actually read it.

Almost since its inception, the Papyrus Document System has integrated audit capabilities into its applications. Standard Papyrus document design, scheduling, and distribution features control when and which reports are formatted, how, and distributed to whom.
