Gold describes the great plays, games, and seasons in Alabama history that has made the program one of the most celebrated in college football history.

Nashville, Tenn. (PRWEB) October 11, 2005 -- Alabama football is part of the cultural fabric of the South. But to a sportscaster from Brooklyn, NY who never watched college football as a child, the Crimson Tide unexpectedly became a family, and their rich football history, a source of endless fascination.

Broadcaster Eli Gold moved to Alabama nearly 20 years ago to become the basketball and eventually, football, broadcaster for the Crimson Tide. Hundreds of touchdowns, interceptions, and road trips later, Gold details his love affair with the University of Alabama in his new book, Crimson Nation: The Shaping of the South’s Most Dominant Football Team (Rutledge Hill Press).

In the book, Gold covers everything from the history of Alabama football to his own personal history and observations of the program. In rich detail, Gold describes the great plays, games, and seasons in Alabama history that has made the program one of the most celebrated in college football history. Some of the topics Gold covers include:

  • Alabama’s 1926 Rose Bowl victory, securing their place in history as the first Southern team to win a National Championship
  • Don Hutson’s game-changing exploits that changed offensive football forever
  • Paul “Bear” Bryant’s legendary personality and coaching techniques
  • The integration of Alabama football in the early 1970s
  • Joe Namath and his relationship with Paul “Bear” Bryant
  • Gene Stallings and Alabama’s 1992 National Championship

“Being the ‘Voice’ of the Crimson Tide is not a job, it’s an honor,” Gold writes in Crimson Nation. “It is a position that is to be handled with care, like a fine piece of crystal.” It’s a surprising statement from a New Yorker who never imagined being all that interested in college football.

Eli Gold is best known as the voice of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, where he has provided radio play-by-play for nearly twenty years. In addition to his responsibilities with the Crimson Tide, Gold broadcasts NASCAR events and hosts the nationally syndicated call-in talk show, NASCAR Live.

Eli Gold is available for media interviews on the topic of Alabama football and his new book Crimson Nation: The Shaping of the South’s Most Dominant Football Team. To request a review copy or to schedule an interview, please contact Shanon Underwood at shanon@psmediarelations.com or 615.498.2189.
