Fox Home Entertainment’s Jan 3 release of Burt Reynolds comedy kicks off ambitious schedule.
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) November 7, 2005 -- The January 3 DVD release of Cloud 9, the first motion picture under Brett Hudson and Burt Kearns’ Frozen Pictures banner, launches Frozen’s ambitious slate of high-concept, low budget feature motion pictures in 2006.
Frozen Pictures plans to begin production on films in the horror and comedy genres. The first, Psych House, has generated great buzz based on Hudson & Kearns’ script.
"We're not doing B-movies and we're not doing art house films," says Hudson. "A Frozen Picture might come in any genre, but it will always be contemporary, mainstream, and produced efficiently, making use of the best talent and technology."
According to Hudson, a Frozen Picture will feature established and newly-discovered talent, working from scripts that are carefully crafted by himself and Kearns.
Frozen's production slate is funded by the Malibu Motion Pictures investment group (www.malibumotionpictures.com), which, according to its sales package, continues to attract investors to a unique slate of “mainstream, commercial entertainment directed toward the widest possible audience for maximum revenue returns.”
Hudson & Kearns, who wrote and produced Cloud 9 with Albert S. Ruddy, stand with prestigious company in the film that kicks off the Frozen Pictures and Malibu Motion Pictures endeavors. Ruddy won Best Picture Oscars for The Godfather and Million Dollar Baby. Executive producer Gray Frederickson is the Academy Award-winning producer of The Godfather, Part II. Hollywood legend Burt Reynolds stars as the coach of an all-stripper beach volleyball team. Co-stars include DL Hughley, Paul Rodriguez, Angie Everhart and Gabrielle Reece.
One-Stop Shopping
The Cloud 9 DVD showcases Frozen Pictures' diverse range. The company produced the DVD bonus features, including two behind-the-scenes featurettes-- and shot photos for the box cover art.
“Frozen Pictures had a strong hand in every aspect of this film-- except the music,” observed Hudson.
That statement contains more than a little irony, considering Hudson’s experience as a recording artist with the 1970s group The Hudson Brothers. Brother Bill Hudson has long been Frozen Pictures’ in-house composer, scoring projects ranging from documentaries to reality programs to the Ruddy-Morgan co-production of Showtime’s My First Time series.
“With Cloud 9, Al knew better!” Hudson says with a laugh.
”Hands-on production and one-stop shopping have always been hallmarks of Frozen Pictures,” says Kearns. “Our backgrounds in television and independent production taught us to work with strict schedules, state-of-the-art equipment and innovative, budget-stretching techniques. And we attract the best people.”
“On one hand, it’s the way of the 21st century,” says Hudson. “Then again, it’s as old as show biz. Like Mickey Rooney said, ‘Hey, my uncle has a barn, let’s put on a show!’ You make use of every talent and technological advance available. And no matter the budget, never sacrifice the nuances. That’s the difference between a high-quality independent feature and a crappy B-movie.”
Vision
Frozen Pictures is based on a partnership between veteran producers with distinct talents but a shared vision. With the Hudson Brothers, Brett Hudson starred in and wrote several TV variety series and the 1983 movie, Hysterical, before embarking on a monumental career as a television producer. Burt Kearns is a veteran television producer, writer, journalist and author with many documentary and magazine series credits and kudos.
Hudson & Kearns first teamed as producers of Miramax Television’s first reality project, The Best Money Can Buy. They were brought together by the show’s creator, acclaimed Australian director Peter Faiman, whose film credits include the classic comedy, Crocodile Dundee.
Hudson and Kearns tried unsuccessfully to lure Faiman from his home in Sydney, Australia to direct Cloud 9 (“The script had real similarities in feel to Dundee,” says Hudson). The job would go to Harry Basil, director of two Rodney Dangerfield movies.
Sales Package
Hudson & Kearns’ Frozen Television production company won its first laurels with its documentary series, including Court TV’s record-rating Adults Only: The Secret History of The Other Hollywood, The Secret History of Rock ‘n’ Roll with Gene Simmons, and the Bravo documentary series, All The Presidents’ Movies, narrated by Martin Sheen (All The Presidents’ Movies is set to be released in a deluxe DVD package in time for Presidents’ Day).
Frozen Television moved into filmed docudrama and comedy when it collaborated with Ruddy-Morgan on the Showtime series, My First Time. During production, Hudson, Kearns & Ruddy wrote the script for Cloud 9, launching the Frozen Pictures era.
Malibu Motion Pictures LLP is comprised of a unique team of professionals with proven track records in every segment of the production process. The principals have more than a century of industry experience among them. Included in its sales package are the comedy, Wilde High and surf thriller, The Hidden Wave.
"Frozen is also working up a heist flick, Two Buck Chuck," says Kearns. "And I've been reading a script called Player by Robert & Muriel Campbell. It's the best family comedy I've read in years. We're hoping to acquire it."
Hudson & Kearns will soon announce availability of their new comedy script, Queer.
