Computer recycling solutions for London UK.
(PRWEB) November 5, 2005 -- North London based Maxitech has swept away the competition to claim first prize in the Better Haringey Awards Cleanest Business category.
At Tuesday night's bash at Alexandra Palace, North London, it was praised for its sustainable benefits to the local, national and international community.
From its base in the Old Chocolate Factory, in Wood Green, Maxitech reconditions old computers no longer needed by large organisations and brings them back into use for the benefit of smaller organisations and charitable groups.
After collecting the award, Maxitech director, Peter Paduh, said: "It's a real privilege to win this award. Recycling is vital because as well as helping the environment it benefits communities. We now live in a throw-away society where we often ignore opportunities that old equipment can afford to the underprivileged. At Maxitech we provide often-neglected communities with access to technology while offering training and jobs for hundreds of local people too.''
Among the guests at the awards ceremony were Haringey Council's executive member for Community Involvement, Lorna Reith, and Hornsey councillor, Quincy Prescott.
Councillor Prescott said: "Companies like Maxitech are great for the community. They provide jobs and elevate the social standing. Their pursuit of electronic recycling is noble and all too often we forget that pioneers like them work to establish a field.
"We welcome Maxitech into Haringey and have been able to help them expand. In this way Haringey is also a pioneer in social enterprise. We look forward to a fruitful partnership with a company who is at the cutting edge of their field."
In September Peter Paduh received the London Day Award from Mayor Ken Livingstone in recognition of his "outstanding contribution to life in London."
He is also a finalist in the London Business Awards 2005, Young Business Person of the Year category.
