Police Courses for Speeders Could Save Drivers Hundreds of Pounds

Recent news that the police are considering training and awareness courses for people who only just break the speed limit, instead of a £60 fine and three points, could result in huge savings for drivers, claims car insurance quote engine Confused.com.

(PRWEB) November 14, 2005 -- Recent news that the police are considering training and awareness courses for people who only just break the speed limit, instead of a £60 fine and three points, could result in huge savings for drivers, claims car insurance quote engine Confused.com.

Confused.com's latest research into car insurance shows that, on average, drivers with one speeding conviction are likely to see increases in their insurance of between 5-7%. However, drivers with multiple convictions can expect dramatic car insurance hikes, up 21% for two convictions and between 40-52% for three convictions.

"Given the option of a course instead of a fine and three points on a license, drivers would be mad to turn down the course," says Kate Armstrong.

To illustrate the point, Confused.com has taken the UK average car insurance premium in July and calculated the impact of three points, six points and nine points on a license. This reveals that for one conviction car insurance could rise from £571.84 to £606.15; for two convictions insurance would increase to £691.92; while for three convictions, insurance would leap to a massive £834.89, £263.05 more than for a driver with a clean license.

Armstrong, added, "Even if the police do not give you the choice of taking a course, it is important to know that not all insurers penalise drivers for speeding convictions in the same way, so by shopping around you may find a provider that will not disproportionately hike your car insurance quote."

www.confused.com is free to consumers, compares car insurance prices for 96% of the car insurance market in only five minutes and on average searches 170 car insurance rates to find the best available deal. The service comes back with car insurance quotes instantaneously and on average saves drivers over £150 on their car insurance premiums.
