New York (PRWEB) November 15, 2005 -- The current issue of Soap Opera Digest, celebrates the magazine’s 30 years as America’s #1 source of celebrity news and program information on soaps.

When the magazine was founded in 1975, the three networks were broadcasting ten hours of soaps every weekday. M*A*S*H and All In The Family were at the top of their popularity, current Passions’ star, Juliet Mills had won an Emmy for her performance in an ABC primetime special, Billie Jean King won Wimbledon, ABC, CBS and NBC had agreed to create a prime-time “family hour,” Saturday Night Live premiered on NBC and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest swept the Oscars.

Thirty years later, the magazine’s Editorial Director, Lynn Leahey is thanking her loyal readers for keeping Soap Opera Digest the No. 1 soap magazine as she prepares for 30 more years. “Daytime has changed dramatically over the years, but the audience is as passionate as ever about their stories and favorite stars.”

A montage of covers from the past 30 years is a walk down memory lane. The Young & The Restless star, Eric Braeden (Victor) has been featured in 39 cover stories, General Hospital’s Maurice Benard (Sonny) has 36 cover stories as does Days of Our Lives’ Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Drake Hogestyn (John). Other notables are Melody Thomas Scott, Peter Reckell, Alison Sweeney, Kristian Alfonso, Kristina Wagner, and Melissa Reeves…all with over 25 cover stories.

Soap Opera Digest archives also include many famous stars who were once in soaps. Celebrity covers featured in the anniversary issue include Meg Ryan, John Stamos, Alec Baldwin, Anne Heche, Melina Kanakaredes, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Josh Duhamel.
