From Tiny Rural Business to National Presence: It Can Be Done

Thanks to the internet, a young mother is able to run a successful jewelry design business from her home in rural Vermont.

(PRWEB) November 15, 2005 -- Adorneya Jewelry Studio (www.adorneya.com) was founded two years ago in a sleepy Vermont town by Georgia Hadley, a young mom of two who found herself so busy working outside the home that she had no time to spend with her children.

She's now able to spend her days working from her home, caring for her two young children, and building her own business. She attributes her success to the Internet. "Ten years ago, this wouldn’t have been possible. Now, I have full access to the information, support, and resources needed to grow my business, all online."

How did it all begin? “I was searching the internet for a pattern I wanted to learn, and found a forum for jewelry designers,” says Hadley, “I got to know a lot of very talented designers who had built successful businesses selling their work.” With the encouragement and guidance of her online friends, Hadley decided to take her hobby to the next level, and Adorneya was born.

With “Slow and Steady” as her mantra, Hadley planned to spend the years while her youngest child was still at home defining her business plan and honing her business skills. Yet again, the internet provided. “Online, I was able to read current articles about small and internet-based business, keep up with the latest fashion trends, and network daily with dozens of other independent designers.”

Her hard work has paid off. In the two years since Adorneya’s launch, Hadley’s designs have found their way into the hands of prominent Hollywood celebrities, and have been featured on major fashion and shopping websites. Adorneya is also represented by an independent design co-op in New York City. This fall, the company reached a milestone with the addition of a new signature collection. “I’m very proud of this collection,” says Hadley. “it represents my growth as a designer.”

Not long ago, accessory designers had to be based in a major city to gain national exposure. With today’s technology, it’s possible for anyone, anywhere, who is willing to make the effort. “So many people think the internet is ‘if you build it, they will come’, which just isn’t the case,” says Hadley, “But if you’re determined, you really can make it work. I’m just so thankful to live in a time when this is possible.”
