3DVU Announces Visual Elevation in the Palm of Your Hand

A breakthrough in 3D visualization of terrain elevation.

Raanana (Israel), November 16, 2005 – 3DVU, a leading global provider of 3D digital visualization of imagery, map data and other geographic content, announces a technichal breakthrough by presenting high definition elevation data as navigation aid for all digital devices including mobile.

Recent advances in remote sensing technology yield higher density with better elevation data accuracy of one meter or better. Displaying such massive amounts of data in 3D perspective with 3D maneuverability presents a major challenge. As a result, most PC based viewers reduce the quality of elevation. Realizing that the terrain generated is far from the original data, they rebuild some of the elevation data. This ploy rarely restores the elevation dataset to its original accuracy. It may also create popping artifacts which most solutions conceal with near sight fog. However, these techniques are inadequate for navigation aid as they are likely to distort the virtual view, for example causing roadways to appear crimped.

"3DVU's advanced technology presents the original elevation data accuracy and density with negligible artifacts. It clearly displays the value of high definition terrain data," noted Isaac Levanon, 3DVU Chairman and CEO.

Another breakthrough achieved by 3DVU's technology is the ability to display 3D elevation and imagery on limited computing devices such as Personal Digital Assistance (PDA), Personal Navigation Device (PND) and Car Navigation System (CNS) devices. 3DVU has achieved this success despite the fact that these devices lack a 3D acceleration chipset and have limited processing power and memory.

"The practical need for visual navigation aid outside the home and office is clear. Compared to Google Earth, 3DVU presents a 3D navigation aid for users on the go with a more accurate view of the world," added Mr. Levanon.

About 3DVU
3DVU was established in the year 2000 to revolutionize the way our world is viewed, navigated and interacted with. 3DVU continues to push technical barriers with light, software-based 3D engines and efficient, packet data streaming technology. This enables the company to offer solutions to markets unattainable by others.

3DVU‘s technology presents the most realistic navigation aid available on any digital device, anywhere. The groundbreaking technology enables in-car navigation systems, PDAs, PNDs, mobile handsets and PCs to display realistic, 3D virtual worlds. Using Visual Map™, satellite and aerial imagery, as well as mapping data, such as point of interest, route information and 3D building models, can now be streamed over limited-bandwidth communications with realistic 3D views and smooth maneuverability.

3DVU is changing the face of mapping by providing the freedom to look at the world in more realistic and compelling ways. The company is strategically partnered with carmakers, navigation systems, mobile devices and headset developers, major satellite and aerial image-sensing entities, mapping and GIS data providers.
