RES PowerFuse Edition 2005 Announced

New version further secures and manages Windows with USB Removable Disk Security, Read-Only Blanketing, and Building Blocks for quick configuration

Atlanta, GA and Amsterdam, The Netherlands (PRWEB) November 16, 2005 -- RES today announced RES PowerFuse Edition 2005, Unified Management for Microsoft Windows. Scheduled for release later this month, the new version includes significant security and management solutions such as USB Removable Disk Security, Read-Only BlanketingTM, and Building BlocksTM for quick configuration of all enterprise Windows desktops, laptops and thin-clients.

Since its launch in 1999, PowerFuse has unified the management of Microsoft Windows, enabling system administrators to lockdown environments, optimize workstation and server performance, centralize licensing, and generate usage/application reports on demand - all from one central console and without scripting. PowerFuse centrally manages any Windows desktop environment, including workstations, Citrix, Terminal Services, and laptops.

"With our new and enhanced point-and-click solutions for the security and configuration of enterprise Windows desktops, PowerFuse Edition 2005 is our most significant release of PowerFuse to date," said Bob Janssen, CTO of RES. "All of the new features and enhancements were developed together with our customers, daily system administrators and integrators of enterprise level Windows environments."

The exclusive ability to completely manage the growing popularity of USB removable disks and their inherent security risks on enterprise Windows platforms is new in PowerFuse Edition 2005. Using PowerFuse's Security Management, the administrator can now restrict or grant read-only access to removable disks based on user, group, or location. This feature increases an organization's security by preventing any user from copying sensitive corporate data to and from removable disks.

An additional security feature that PowerFuse Edition 2005 offers is Read-Only Blanketing of any local drive on any computer. With a few clicks of the mouse, the administrator can use the central PowerFuse console to render all local drives on any computer read-only to the user. Exceptions can be configured on global and application levels. This ability increases security and prevents users from losing important documents.

PowerFuse Edition 2005 also introduces the concept and reality of Building Blocks to administrators, allowing for quick and easy configuration and change management of all Windows desktop environments managed by PowerFuse. A Building Block consists of a virtual Windows configuration which the administrator can design, test and approve before rolling out the settings to actual Windows desktops in the enterprise. This significantly reduces the time to configure Windows desktops and is essential for real change management.

Other significant features in PowerFuse Edition 2005 include:

  • Partly Managed WorkstationsTM - Administrators can now allow selected users to have application installation rights which are wizard driven, documented and traced.

  • PowerFuse WebtopTM – The Webtop enables users to access their desktop through a Web browser. The Webtop can be integrated into an organization’s existing Web portal.

  • Instant Mail enhancements - In addition to Outlook/Exchange, administrators can now automate configuration of Oracle Collaboration Suite, Outlook Express, and Nortel CallPilot from the PowerFuse Console.

  • Native support for SQL Server 2005 - This enables administrators to host the PowerFuse database on SQL Server 2005, taking full advantage of high availability, increased performance, and improved security. All editions of SQL Server 2005 are supported by PowerFuse Edition 2005.
